Yes he did stare down Gaffney. How hard is it to teach a QB to not look at the intended WR? maybe go through your progressions backwards, look at him at the beginning to make sure he's gotten off his block then come back to him at the right time.
I remember watching the play develope and immediatly looked to Gaffney myself because I thought oooh slant go to him.... but then it seemed Grossman waited too long to go to the play, Gaffney ran right into the LB and stopped and then instead of getting in front of the LB he shuffles behind him and works his route toward the endzone, and the dreaded pass right into the LB's hands.
