I think they've done it respectably. 9 times out of 10 it's a colossal failure when it comes to film and TV adaptions but Walking Dead has managed to peace together an engaging story line.
For example you look at the Resident Evil changing up the source material and absolutely butchering it and with Walking Dead that's just not the case.
