I wouldn't be too troubled if the Redskins sent a third rounder for Mark Sanchez. I think that's probably not a great use of a third round pick, but you're getting more return on that pick than if you spent it on a quarterback in the third round. Mark Sanchez isn't a great QB, but I would take him rest of career over say, Terrelle Pryor (though I think it's close).
The biggest issue with Sanchez is this: he takes up $8.5 million of your 2012 salary cap, and it would be even worse if you extended him to save $4 million in cap dollars. So he's limiting your ability to use your cap room to improve in free agency, even at the cost of a third round pick.
If you think you can win in either 2012 or 2013 with Mark Sanchez at QB, then I would trade a third rounder for him. But if anyone thinks he's a long term answer, I disagree.
