A couple of reasons he is sharing this year may be:

1. He knows we are concerned that his style of offense is outdated, and that he may be unwilling to change enough to make him competitive.

2. When you keep something a secret, and everyone knows you have a secret, it adds more value to the secret. Thus inflating the value of a simple shotgun formation. And it might not work. And then your big bad secret looks like a bigger joke.

3. When the players last year were telling reporters that we hadnt even used any of our "new" plays yet. That they were going to work them in. I half expected Clinton Portis to grow wings and fly to the end zone. Less hype is good(in case it doesnt work), and keeping it a secret from other teams is a waste of time. It's how often you use the play variations. Like Im sure Lovie Smith would love to know how many times we plan to line up in the Shotgun. But he wont know until game day.
