I used to referee basketball until a back injury made that impossible. Twice I had a stress fracture in the foot. They hurt and they hurt a lot. You can walk and you can run on them, but you are keenly aware of each and every time that foot hits the ground.

My doctor said that the ONLY cure is rest and kleeping as much weight off the foot as possible. Shoe supports and cushions help a bit, but time is the only cure.

The worst stress fracture I had happened sometime in late February of one year. I "ignored" it to finish out the season in early/mid-March. Then I procrastinated going to the doctor because I knew what it was and knew what he was going to tell me and I didn't want to hear it. I finally went to him about 1 May and got the diagnosis. It was completely healed in October.
