Yeah its probably fair to speculate that Seau has developed brain damage, and perhaps even CTE, from his profession and sport. But I dont think theres any proof CTE causes depression, its just a correlation.
Id like to see the correlation between those who develop depression after losing unimaginable success, fame, and lifestyles. Or someone who loses an elite ability in general. I believe cricket players are supposed to have the highest rate of suicide in pro sports. Maybe thats part cultural or maybe those who experience the reverse of rags to riches coupled with a loss of importance are at a higher likelihood of developing depression once their new found role of triviality sets in.
Junior Seau was a amazing player and is one of my favorite non-Redskins. Unfortunately it sounds like he had some very serious depression. Perhaps his early loss could have been prevented but it may have been inevitable.
