I hear ya... she actually didn't have any real scenes until the finale. Even then, they're just moments... but those glimpses showed real talent.
While watching the show (and it's probably a reason why I never became upset with the Sud's direction) never really had Rosie's character in mind. Her death was the device that set up the rest of the series for me... the fallout investigation and the appropriate development of everyone involved- the family, the two investigators and the politicians. It wasn't until last night's episode that I finally saw why people were so crushed by her loss (beyond the traditional family ties).
I think it was easier having seen Twin Peaks first... Laura Palmer's death triggers everything else. I can see why some viewers got tired of the Killing herrings, however.
