The only thing I can think as a reason is their outright denial of the evidence. It has to be something along the lines of "He didn't REALLY know". Otherwise, I can't see how you could justify defending Paterno and live with yourself.

We are talking aiding and abetting the entrapment and brutal rape of young, at-risk boys. How can you even begin to say "Yeah, but ..." to that.

I understand you don't want to punish the innocent, but I think all this just highlights exactly what Freeh was talking about at Penn State in terms of the culture. If this is our next generation of leaders, I weep for the future.

I had been wavering before, but this culture of denial and cover-up need to go. The place needs to be, metaphorically speaking, razed to the ground and rebuilt. Anyone defending the school's actions and deliberate inactions in this matter needs to be fired yesterday. Horrible. Just horrible.
