To say he just happened to be there when ESPN started is akin to saying Matty just happened to be there when this website began. Berman's been as instrumental as anyone in building ESPN.
My feeling is similar to what many of his current and ex colleagues, unbelievable respect for what he's done and the paths he laid down for people like myself, but it's probably time for him to hang up the mic

Thanks for the history dude. What you said about Berman on the personal level is what I would have guessed...just a good all-around dude. And to his credit, on the air I think he's trying to take more of a backseat to the other broadcasters but they don't always step up to it.
