One of the fundamental issues with the Redskins over the last four years has been poor pass coverage. If Hall was actually a good player caught on a bad team, could we not at least expect him to have a positive effect on those players immediately around him.
It would be one thing if the Redskins were like the Jets, Hall took multiple no. 1 receivers away, and the Redskins were mediocre entirely because of an inept offense. But the defense has been lacking in many, many games in the last four years, and of the constants (Hall, Fletcher, Alexander, Golston, Orakpo) on that side of the ball, Hall's performance is the single hardest to defend.
There are worse players on the Redskins defense than Hall (Cedric Griffin, Brandon Meriweather, for example), but the bottom line is that this has clearly become an issue of questionable decisions by the current regime. Shanahan could have saved a lot of trouble and big plays against by axing Hall when he came in and just blaming the contract on Cerrato.
