it depends on the time frame you base the savings on and you do end up with an extra player with the pick which would also help the team more (though not monetarily).

In the long run, rookies save money, but they're also unproven in the nfl, and in case of busts you lose time and money. (these last two drafts seemed to have gone well as far as picking talent with the few picks we've had though).
