According to this site, the range of punishment is 2-20 years, although probation is an option as long as the the convict serves 120 days in jail.

This Brents 2nd offense, and a judge could choose to make an example out of him. However, i would imagine his contrition, the fact that the victim was his best friend, and victims family seems to have forgiven him could make a judge more likely to show some leniency.
