Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
So i've got something new i want to rant about - Colts fans who are b!tching and whining that Andrew Luck isnt in the ROY conversation. They keep pointing out that he took a 2-14 team and turned them into an 11-5 team.
I say that's crap. Indy was a perennial 13-3 team when they had a good quarterback and 2-14 team when they were starting guys that shouldnt even be 3rd stringers with a head coach who was a complete joke.
Andrew Luck may develop into an elite passer, but in 2012, he wasn't all that impressive. I know QB rating isnt perfect, but its a decent guideline that correleates pretty well to the "eyeball test." In 2012, the to 8 NFL players in QB rating were (in order):
Aaron Rodgers
Peyton Manning
Robert Griffin II
Russell Wilson
Matt Ryan
Tom Brady
Ben Rothlisberger
Drew Brees
Andrew Luck was 26th. Blaine Gabbert, Nick Foles, Mike Vick, Christian Ponder, and Ryan Fitzpatrick all had better QB ratings than Luck. If Ryan Fitzpatrick is better than you in a category that combines multiple statistics, you're not any good. He was 14th in the league with 23 TDs, but 4th in interceptions with 18. Fellow rookie Russell Wilson threw 3 more TDs with 8 less picks. RGI threw 3 less TDs but with an astonishing 13 less picks (only 10).
I'm sorry Colts fans, but Andrew Luck wasnt very good. The only category of note where Luck put up favorable numbers in comparision to the other rookies (let alone other quarterbacks) is passing yards. To that i say - Luck threw like crazy in the 4th quarter when defenses were playing prevent because the opposing team had built up large leads - partly due to Lucks ineffectiveness and mistakes throughout the earlier parts of the game. So while he did earn the yards, i dont think its as much of a "positive" as you might think.
No sane person would argue that Luck was a better rookie QB than RGIII or Wilson. And quarterbacks werent the only noteable rookie offensive players in 2012. If we're talking skill position players (and offensive ROY candidates almost always are) Alfred Morris and Doug Martin also be in the conversation. You can only really include Luck in the conversation if you want it to be a big conversation. And even if you include him, you cant do so seriously.
Going by every measurable statistic, RGIII is the clear front-runner for ROY, with Wilson a close 2nd. If youre going to include a third player in the conversation, its going to be Alfred Morris, not Andrew Luck. Sorry Colts fans. Andrew Luck isnt getting snubbed. He's just not in the conversation because he doesnt desreve to be.
