It's still early on, but this may signal that they may be shaking things up on the entire defensive unit. Previously, I thought that they would concentrate mostly on the secondary especially since they don't have a lot of cap space to work with because of the cap penalty.
I would prefer that they pick up one of the oldies but goodies(Woodson, Reed, Adrian Wilson) at safety AND draft one of the best safeties in the draft. The young lion could learn from the veteran free agent and take over after he retires.

In an non cap restricted year, I would be all for this. We could bring in Woodson, have enough for WInston, and maybbe with a restructure or two, have a little bit left for one of the top 5 cbs in the FA class. But with the penalty, our hands are kind of tied behind our back.
I have faith that Shanahan will make sweet cap lemonade out of the cap lemon the league handed him. My trust in the man has never been at a higher level. On top of that, If the last 10 games we saw the real Haslett, then our (pass) defense should improve 5-10 spots this year, maybe a couple more with Orakpo/Merriweather back. NFC East crown should remain in Washington, coutning on the timely return of RG3. (at least by game 3 or 4)
