Jerry Porter? Better, cheaper, option at WR...

I am watching ESPN and they are talking to Jerry Porter, and he is talking about the possibility of being let go, or traded. Jerry has stated 'I'm 30 years old, I want to win now."

If things don't work out for him in Oakland, should we go after him in a trade possibility? He wouldn't cost us as much as Chad Johnson, plus the Bengals are nixing any trade rumors of Chad.

I was just thinking of maybe another big wideout. I love Chad and all but I do not want to trade any picks for other players. I just hope that Zorn is bringing that mindset to our organization. I just hope that he brings the Holmgren approach to out team because we need it.

Interesting possibility. Had some big time potential before things went south in Oakland. Attitude issues exist, but would certainly be cheaper and would not cost draft picks. I'd at least take a long look at him. Porter is also a D.C. native if I'm not mistaken.

I wouldn't be opposed to Porter. He's got some baggage but he brings something we don't have.. Size, decent speed, good hands..

He is a DC native. He went to Coolidge HS.

He would be one of the best bets for us at WR. He is 6'2" 220lbs, and he is tested at an NFL level. I say at WR we pick a big target vet WR like Porter, see what Anthony Mix does in the offseason, and draft another WR in the 5th-7th rounds of the draft.

I too like Chad Johnson, aka Ocho Cinco, but not enough to depart draft picks for him. Remember we did that for Laverneaus Coles, and lost a 1st and 3rd that year to the Jets, and as I recal that did work out too well.

Not buying it.. 6'2 220 pound WR with NFL expirience (8 years)??? How did that work out for the Bengals when they took Michael Westbrook (6'3 220 lbs) in 2002?..

Look at these stats after 8 years
Porter--284 catches 3900 yards 30 tds

Westbrook--285 catches 4300 yards 26 tds... Porter IMO wouldnt even be a band-aid at this point.. we should draft or try for #85.

Porter=Westbrook... and that aint good!

If they're going to sign a receiver, I would want it to either be Porter or Hackett. As long as they don't give up a draft pick or overpay for somebody I'll be happy.

I've watched this guy play and at times he has looked unstoppable other times he has looked like bum. I think if he's heart is in it and being a DC native might be worth the risk at a cost efficient rate.

West Coast Brandon Lloyd

Seriously though, he's got the talent but will his attitude do a 180 outside of Oakland?

His attitude was fine last year. He only had problems when Art Shell was the coach.

Don't know just how much JP has left. His production/or lack thereof could be a bi-product of the overall instability with the Raiders. He is a local, but haven't heard his name mentioned in Redskin circles. Being a FA I'm sure his name has been brought up at some point.

Do not compare Mike Westbrook to Joey Porter, there is a huge difference Mike didn't have any class as a person or a player. Comparing stats is one thing, but we have seen guys revive their careers with a location change...aka, Santana Moss
