What!!!?
Falcons could add Culpepper or Brunell?
If the Falcons look to add another experienced quarterback to their roster, Daunte Culpepper was recently released by the Dolphins. He is battling back from a severe knee injury but is only two seasons removed from throwing for 4,717 yards and 39 touchdowns. Another veteran to watch through training camp is the Washington Redskins' Mark Brunell, who is set to backup Jason Campbell. Brunell played for Falcons coach Bobby Petrino with the Jacksonville Jaguars and threw a career-high 23 touchdown passes in 2005 with the Redskins, when working with Bill Musgrave, who is now the Falcons quarterbacks coach. -- Atlanta Journal-Constitution link |

Re: What!!!?
Unless we desperately need the cap room or he's not 100%, I don't see this happening at all.
Just a FYI I'm editing the thread title, let's try to be a little more descriptive than "What!!!?" |

Re: What!!!?
Last time i checked, he wasnt for sale.
When shoddy reporters are trying to speculate, they look at new coaches resumes. They take a look at players that coaches have worked with before and jump to crazy conclusions. That's complete fiction. |

Re: What!!!?
exactly. HE coached brunell and brunell is a backup so in this reporter's mind that means brunell is on the short list to head on out to atlanta. Great.

Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
I understand we need quality depth but if there was a possibility that we could unburden ourselves of that massive contract, then we need to at least look into it. That said, I am one of the 3 people who don't think Joey Harrington is washed up so I don't expect anything of this nature to happen.

Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
This is all simply speculation from the perspective of which QB would make logical sense for the Falcons to pursue. It does not factor in the low (nill) likelihood of Brunell being traded by Washington.
It's an Atlanta paper just throwing out an idea, nothing more. Atlanta journalists know less about the Washington Redskins than just about every fan on this board. Until I see a murmur about this appearing on JLC's Redskins Insider, I'm discounting it as complete bunk.

I've never thought of that smiley as an "I agree with you" smiley. Anyone else?

Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
Absolute speculation. Brunell just (in February) restructured his contract to lower his base salary, but got him some scratch upfront. Unless the Falcons want to compensate that outlay with some draft picks, he's staying on the team.
And that's just from a fiscal perspective. Clearly, this coaching staff has a fondness for Brunell, like his ability, love his mentoring, and want him here. To give that up would take a sweet deal.

I've never been a Bruell basher, but there are plenty on this forum. I think it would be ridiculous to trade him unless we were offered the world in return. Simply no need to trade your best qualified veteran backup, a proven quarterback, when you have an umproven, essentially nothing more than a rookie quarterback as your starter in Jason Campbell. If JC struggles mightily or gets hurt, Mark Brunell is the only chance this team has to go anywhere. |

Re: What!!!?
If Brunell becomes the only chance this team has to go anywhere at any point in this season, I'm divorcing myself from the Washington Redskins. All Brunell has ever proven in Washington is that if every other part of the team is performing perfectly, he can be relied on to not eff if up, and that was two seasons ago.

Who else do you expect to pick the slack if JC gets hurt? Collins? Bramlet? Palmer? |
