Just plain ugly

Yuck.

-- Campbell's out of sync
-- Moss missing perfectly thrown balls
-- Smoot getting torched -- they've been going after him all game
-- Cooley completely shut down

So far, not much different from a typical 2006 game

(at half-time)

Re: Just plain ugly

we're definitly not as good as I thought we were gonna be. Hopefully Springs stays healthy all season.

But we did win and CP looks pretty good

Don't expect more of that.

I think the SKins played well. Sure we had some rusty issues, but Campbell threw the ball downfield very well...had Moss caught the balls, we would have won without needing OT.
Smoot pulling a Carlos Rogers at the end of regulation was a concern.
Overall though, we played a tough defense, and showed some good things to build on.

My BIGGEST concern, something you didn't mention, was our weak D between 10-15 yards. It also appeared we could have been torched deep if Green wasn't afraid to throw it. But again, the D looked good, and the O looked inconsistant, but showed signs of a team that could be dominant.

Yes, it seemed like the D was good if they were able to pitch a 3 and out, but once they started converting a couple of 3rd downs, things started to break down.

The secondary is still a concern. They were pickin' on Smoot something fierce. Why was he starting ahead of Springs?

And Carlos Rogers still looks like a fifth round pick, not a #9 overall.

I agree. 2 years and it still seems like this kid can't get it together.

I found that interesting too.

Well, Smoot looked horrible IMO. He made poor decisions all day, and could have made up for it with that easy pick, but nope.

The fact that they didn't throw it to his side very often means he had good coverage. So I disagree with you here. I thought he did fine.

Well, they were throwing to Smoot because it was working out so well.

The play that stands out was the long pass play towards the end that allowed Miami to tie the game at 13. I know he's not going to shut anybody down. But he still seems to fall apart at all the wrong times -- again, not what I anticipate for a player selected so high in the draft.

He did play better than Smoot though, no question.

I think the call was right when Gibbs decided to kick on 2nd down. I'm sure because we are the Redskins something would have gone wrong like a holding call and we would have been out of field goal range.

Re: Just plain ugly

Ok so I still have huge questions about our Dline. Yes they helped stop the run, but that was more our safeties and LBs coming up to tackle. But what about a pass rush? I dont think our guys did a good enough job pressuring the QB. It seems like the front 4 cant get pressure on their own. With the except of 1-2 pressures by Andre Carter, our D line didnt seem to give them too much of a scare on passing downs.

Re: Just plain ugly

You know what blows my mind? The Redskins ran the exact same formation shift on 4th down that they ran in the pre-season against Baltimore and Miami still jumped offsides. That's bad coaching. I could see that from a mile away. Gibbs would never go for it on 4th and 2 in that situation.

I'm not sure why they flagged us. Sellers may have moved late which would make it two men in motion at the same time rather than a shift or the ref can flag Yoder for simulating the snap if he begins his motion with too jerky a movement that is unnatural and obviously an attempt to draw the defense offsides. At any rate, I like the attempted deception. I would have liked a better explanation from the refs, especially since Gibbs told him what they were going to do before the game.

Re: Just plain ugly

Yeah I dont know about that call on 4 2 by the refs. Gibbs seemed to be pretty pissed about that too in the presser.

Re: Just plain ugly

Yeah, that was a terrible call. If you see the press-conference with Gibbs after the game he addresses that play. The refs hate us.
