Question FedEx Field

I like the way FedEx Field has natural turf. I hope that never changes. I love Qwest Field, but I just wish it was a grass field.

How many people does FedEx hold for a Redskins game? Something like 90,000?

I think you're about right. I haven't been to FedEx field before, but I sort of wish the Redskins could build a new stadium at the RFK site. Seems like they've been cursed ever since they moved operations to Maryland.

Re: FedEx Field

I've always loved Fed Ex field. I've never been to any other NFL stadiums (except RFK) and really have had no issues with it.

I've always had a blast, and can't remember a bad experience... even when we lose.

I wish that Dan Snyder would do something to channell all those peoples voices to the field, the way the Seahawks do. The acoustics of FedEx are not ideal.

Nothing to do with Snyder. It is how the new Kingdom was designed. Sound engineers advised them on how to design the stadium so the sound would travel down towards the field. Other stadiums are designed so the noise travels up into the atmosphere. I read an article about last season, pretty interesting stuff.

Despite the rain and chilly temperatures, the FedEx Field parking lots filled up early in the afternoon, normally empty club-level seats appeared filled and the team announced an attendance of 90,910, a stadium record.

1) What is with the Bittersweet symphony at Qwest? it isn't gonna fire anyone but a kicker up.
2) With all the rain the grass would be beautiful, why turf?

1. Personally speaking I would prefer "Cochise" by Audioslave. Northwest connection with Chris Cornell, and it has a great intro that really gets you pumped.

2. I think mainly because the way they justified spending all that money on a new stadium was to make sure it would be multi-use: professional football, professional soccer, some college games, concerts, etc. They probably figured FieldTurf would be the easiest to maintain. Plus, with the Turf they could also install a very efficient drainage system that would guarantee there would never be puddling on the field during a game, even in the worst downpour. I would still rather take my chances with grass though.

Good choice. Big Soundgarden/Audioslave/Temple Of the Dog fan here.

Re: FedEx Field

I have to say I don't like domes, but a retractable roof on the rfk site would be pretty damn loud. I think we don't need it any bigger, or we cant sell all the seats. I want it louder and an atmosphere designed for the real skins fan.

Re: FedEx Field

FedEx is filled with way too many corporate/lobbyists types. They don't really care about the game, it's just something to do on Sunday. It's a shame really.

That's the way Danny likes it. The Skins used to be more of a community team with people knowing who your season ticket neighbors are since forever. Now the Skins are more about selling 90k seats and corporate advertising, & merchandise sales. Its not the same, or as good, anymore but what is.

BTW, if the Skins do get a new stadium it will be a dome or retractable roof so DC can get the Super Bowl and host a yearly college bowl game.

SO TRUE! Especially the Club Level where the wannabes watch the game on the leather sofas! Dudes in blazers, chicks in pumps.

Re: FedEx Field

Fed Ex is the largest NFL stadium and it generates the most revenue because so many people with deep pockets go there and pay top-dollar prices for everything.

Anyone who has been to lots of different NFL venues - and has been even marginally sober in the process - will NOT have FedEx anywhere near the top of the list of great venues. FedEx is not the worst place to go in the league. Superdome, Giants Stadium, Alltel and Metrodome are pretty bad. (Never been to Oakland, but have heard it is the worst of the worst.) But FedEx cannot be put in the top half of NFL stadiums in 2008.

It's ugly. It's inconvenient. Its sightlines are mediocre.

As soon as the new Cowboys stadium is ready, FedEx will be the second largest venue in the league because Jerry Jones built it so that it can add seating to hold just over 100,000 folks. And with its retractable roof, it will be the home for lots of Super Bowls...
