With us apparently in the market for a big WR, how would you feel about going after a WR in the first round?

With talent like Malcolm Kelly or even (Limas Sweed, but likely he will fall into the 2nd round) possibly right there at the #21 spot in the first round. Kelly had a really good college career and both great size 6'4", 215-220 lb range.

Don't think it's a good idea. We have more pressing needs at CB & DE that could be addressed with the 1st pick.

Teams can be successful in the WCO without a dominant WR (Green Bay, Philly, Seattle). There are FA options also; DJ Hackett, Bryant Johnson. Mix may develop.

OFFENSIVE LINE. No bones about it. You can't win a championship without a healthy offensive line.

As of today the bandwagon I'm on is try to sign either Jerry Porter or Javon Walker (if he gets released) then use the draft on DL and OLine. Also open to the possibility of taking a linebacker on the first day. However knowing Synder we're probably going to give a first and third for CJ and draft a DE in the second.

I would like to sign Porter as well. I do not think the Skins will use their first round pick on a wide reciever but they may use it in the second round; James Hardy would be a perfect candidate to draft with that pick, in my opinion. He 6'7(the tall reciever that Campbell would covet), quick, and has good hands.

Here are some stats and video footage of him, from rival:

With our history of drafting receivers I would have to say beware of that position.

Not just our history, but NFL history. When's the last time a receiver drafted in the first round made an immediate impact on the team's success? I'm not talking about having a great season (Boldin), I'm just talking about getting a team to the next level.

I think you can get solid receivers in the 2nd round and beyond

i would have to say 1998 when minnesota drafted a little knowed fellow by the name of Randy Moss at 21 team did win 15 games that year..how about Torri Holt 6th pick of the greatest show on turf that years super bowl champs..Reggie wayne in 2000..braylon edwards(default to injury)in 05 made his team a contender for the upcoming year...ite exception not the rule i know but its how and who you draft..They has been more QB bust then any other position but that didn't stop us from picking a stud like Campbell in the 1st.

that's kinda one of my reasons for jamaal charles. running backs can have the quickest impact on a team. Even though we don't have any glaring needs at RB, it may be nice to have a young fresh fast home run hitter.

Also, I'd like to look at jacob hester if he's coming out, and owen schmidt for a fullback option, even though they won't be first rounders if they're even coming out this year...

Re: What our your thoughts on drafting a WR with our first round pick?

Drafting WRs is the absolute WORST idea. Even great WRs almost always take time to adjust. It is easier to draft imapct linemen and use FA for skill position players. Especially in the case of WRs. I will be pissed if we draft a WR.

Re: What our your thoughts on drafting a WR with our first round pick?

As long as we don't trade a first and a third for C.J. I'm good. I really think bringing him in would be a horrible idea, and we'd give up two draft picks to do it. As for taking a wide receiver in the first round, I'd rather go defensive end mainly because as others have pointed out almost nobody makes an impact at wide receiver in their first season, save for a guy like Marques Colston, but even he didn't have that huge of an impact.

Re: What our your thoughts on drafting a WR with our first round pick?

O-line first, then either DE or something in the D-backfield (CB, SS, FS). There will be some good quality WR's in FA and the draft. Plus, we need to give Anthony Mix a chance to prove himself. He did play with Campbell at Auburn, which could mean great production from those two. Campbell is coming into his own and Mix could develop into a productive wideout. Just my thoughts.
