Lets overpay for Jared Allen

why has no body mentioned this guy. I think he may be the best free agent out there this off season and DE is definiely one of if not our biggest need. If were going to over pay for someone lets make it him.

(obviously i dont want to overpay for anybody, but with snyder and cerrato you know its going to happen so make it worth it)

He's no Justin Smith

Seriously though, very talented but I know several teams have some concerns about the fact that he's been arrested something like four times in the last thre years for DUI, and he's been suspended by the league once (even though it was reduced from 4 games to 2)

He has had problems but he quit drinking so he should be fine. I just have a great feeling about him

Re: Lets overpay for Jared Allen

the skins are talking as if they would like to get an interior lineman, that's good at rushing the qb, instead of a end.

Yeah, I've got mixed feeling about that. I hear what they're saying about Marcus Washington and Chris Wilson together being effective pass rushers. But why not just get one guy who can do that? And I thought they were pretty content with Montgomery and Golston's progress.

Of course, if they get a DE I don't think he should be a pass-rushing specialist like Wilson. He needs to be able to play the run effectively as well.

Jared Allen makes our line among the best in the nfl. With that said, there is no chance we get him, the chiefs have already let the world know that he will absolutely be franchised. If he was not, he would get 12 to 15 million a year.

I think they're very content with Montgomery's progress, but Golston already is all that he'll ever be in the NFL. He's a very hard worker, but in the end isn't big enough, strong enough, or quick enough to be a front-line starter in the NFL. He's a good 3rd DT, good in a rotation. But if he were a full time starter I wouldn't feel great about the interior line.

Montgomery has the size and quickness to be force. But with Griffin getting older, I can see the logic for wanting a young DT.

It wouldn't be Montgomery or Golston getting replaced (at least full time). We're putting Griffin in a real tough situation by asking him to be a full time player at age 31. So far, the solution to this issue has involved NOT cutting Daniels for cap relief, and using him as a DE/DT hybrid. Short-term fix, but getting another young DT in there for the rotation, who could be expected to start by 2009 would be ideal.

If Calais Campbell or Phillip Merling fall to us IMO we need to take one of them. I think the production of Washington and Wilson had a lot to do with scheme rather than straight up physically beating the OL. I'm with you, there is no substitute for a DE that can physically dominate his man in both the pass & run game. (The Giants looked pretty good doing it, and Mario Williams is making Casserly look like a genius for passing on Bush). I think Cerrato may also be throwing out a little smoke-screen prior to the combine and draft.

The top three D-tackles are Griffin, Montgomery, and Golston. With Griffin getting a little long in the tooth, they'd probably be a bit more comfortable with one more solid guy in the middle. To me, Golston will always be #3 in the D-tackle rotation.
