GPS systems for your car...best one?
It seems as if you buy a new car, the option for an in dash GPS Navigation system could be anywhere from $1600-2800. I bought a Garmin (I think it was an XPS) way back for my 2005 GMC (so I bought it right around december of 2004), and now it's amazingly outdated. I want to get a new one but I am unsure of what to get. Any suggestions? Does anyone have any experience with any of them?

AN/ARN-151 might have a bit of trouble getting one with a working key though.

I have a TomTom and it's great. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the major brands.

What is outdated? The maps? Have you looked into buying updated maps for it? If by outdated you mean it's bulky and old looking then I would suggest looking at Garmin Nuvi models (600 or 700 series). That should hold you up for another 4 years before they start looking outdated too.
p.s. Once they come out with OLED devices in about 4 years or so pretty much everything is going to look outdated.

I am actually leaning towards the Garmin Nuvi. No loading maps, they are all in there for the continental US. It's small and light, in color and it's a good brand name. A friend told me about it this morning and said it was perfect. I'm going up to Roswell after the race today to buy one.

Is that the one that you ask it for directions by calling it Tomtom?

check this out, it looks pretty nice. Amazon.com: Garmin nüvi 660 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator: Electronics
also watch woot.com... they always have gps systems featured. Usually they're only around a hundred bucks, but you have to get on early for the best deals... if I dont check until 2pm, many times I miss out on the best woots...

I have the Nuvi 660 and it's pretty nice It's relatively small and has a nice big screen. Plus it has traffic alerts (3 month subscription included, $60 a year if you want to continue with the service) and an FM transmitter which allows you to play mp3 files through the Nuvi and hear it through your radio.
