RUMOR - - Wash Post hires Jason LaCanfora's Replacement

A friend who is a sports journalist - he does not work for the Washington Post - told me about an hour ago that the Washington Post will announce that Rick Maese will replace Jason LaCanfora as the Skins' beat writer.

Maese did a stint with the Orlando Sentinel and then moved to the Baltimore Sun. He was a columnist at both stops so "beat writing" is something back in his past. He was let go at the Sun recently when that paper purged about a half dozen folks from their sports department.

I made three phone calls trying to confirm this rumor but could not confirm. So, this is still in the rumor stage - - - but stay tuned...

I can confirm that it's true

I guess I can't really, but I've heard the same thing but from pretty reliable sources

Dan Steinberg cited a "usually reliable source" saying this is true too.

He should, but he's citing a source himself, so I guess nothing is official yet.

saden1: You guys hired Rick Maese to replace JLC?

Quote:
WaPo Source: I have not heard about us hiring anyone in that capacity. Jason Reid is still doing it and Paul Tenorio and Dan Steinberg have been spending more time at Redskins Park.

Re: RUMOR - - Wash Post hires Jason LaCanfora's Replacement

He's supposedly starting in mid-July. He said so himself...at least that's what I heard he said.

Don't know much about the guy, wonder what sort of sources he has with the Redskins

Got to love the irony. All that criticism towards the organization for getting free agents and not building from within and what does the Post do? If you guessed sign a free agent you would be correct.

I guess the people at the post don't really know who they have or haven't hired. If I were one of them I wouldn't be either.

Thank god this is getting settled. I was really getting worried about who was going to be the next WaPo "insider" for the fans to pile on every day.
