I would like to see -

JC hitting DT consistently on the first series or 2 of each game

Clinton not carrying much at all, we know he can do it but I don't want the offense being based around him and his running.

Malcolm Kelly playing for a quarter + each game, getting into rhythm and showing some explosiveness

Sacks

Defensive Ints

Tom Brady on his back often in the 3rd game

A solid core of O-Line development. Not much of Samuels playing though. I want him to rest until he faces the Giants.

Finally, No injuries.

What is everyone else looking for?

I just want to see improvement on the offense because I believe the defense will take care of itself. I'm interested in seeing Colt Brennan playing alot more and Orakpo and Jarmon playing for extended periods of time to implemented to the speed of the game.

When the first stringers are out there on offense I'll be looking at tempo, how they are getting in and out of the huddle, and a sense that they are more comfortable in what they are doing vs. last year at this time. I also want to see JC looking comfortable and decisive with where he goes with the ball. Drop back, 1, 2, 3 and the ball is out.

I agree with matty. I would like to see signs of less confusion. I don't want to be in a situation where Zorn shows that "deer in the headlights" look. I wan't to see signs of confidence in JC - putting the ball in tighter spots and letting the receivers make plays. I'd like to see the OL give him more time to make the big plays down field.

Just want to see some good execution in the passing game. If JC can stay off his back, that'd be a plus. Most importantly- NO INJURIES.

Just the word 'injuries' gives me the shivers.

Admit it, it's in the back of everyone's minds. Chances are someone is going down in August, you just hope it's at a position with enough depth to get by and it's not a season ender. You always hate those day 1 of camp injuries too.

I honestly want to see Thomas and Kelly playing with first, second and third team. There's no better way for them to learn than being on the field. Not only that, playing against some (hopefully) inferior competition with the second and third teams might make them a lot more confident going into the season.

Yeah but you have to weigh that against risking them to injury.

Not sure it's worth it. They'll get much more out of practice than playing with/against scrubs.

It's true, but I really want to see them with some real competition against real teams. That's the thing I hate about preseason is that the injury bug ALWAYS seems to hit the Redskins at the wrong possible time on the wrong possible player.

This is on the surface part of why the nfl is considering 18 games w/2 preseason. It's a bogus front to me, they want 18 games for the revenue. Having 2 preseason games doesn't necessarily limit injuries, because KNOWN starters don't play that much in preseason.

Which brings me to my point; preseason games are needed for general practice & to decide roster spots & position battles. If DT & MK are in the running to start or move up the depth chart they need to get a lot of snaps in real game action, whether that's practice, scrimmages or preseason games.

I appreciate your point about limiting action in preseason, but I see it as applying to guys that are obvious starters. Everyone else needs to be evaluated and the only way to do that is in real game situations. I would think both those guys will get many more reps than Moss & ARE, but they likely won't be playing much in the 3rd & 4th quarters, which might be what you're saying.

Yes that's what I'm saying.

They will get their work, but not in the 3rd and 4th when the nobodies are in there.

Figured you were after I went off on my tangent!

If you couldn't tell, I really think 18 games is a horrible idea. Even if preseason games are reduced, coaches will just schedule scrimmages. If anything, some coaches will just bring their teams along slowly & try to reduce reg. season pt for starters as well.

I just want to see a lot of the young guys out there after the first team is finished up. I want to see Thomas, Kelly, Davis and Mitchell doing well later on in games.
