Who's better
Ryan Clark, or Matt Bowen. Clark during the season layed the wood on deep recievers and had decent coverage skills (3rd on team in tackels) , whille bowen can't cover a damn thing and knows how to blitz and run stop who would u start and why? :confused-

As hard as it is to say, I'll have to go with Bowen. This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to admit. It's a sad-sad day in history.

I say next year we put our best ass kicker in their for blitzing and run support. I think our other safety might be able to handle the outfield all by himself. What's that guy's name again.... oh yeah Taylor he's pretty decent from what I remember.

Clark is the better all-around safety in my opinion. Bowen shined in week 1 coming on blitzes, but he still seems to be a liability in coverage. I wish we got to see more of Bowen this year to see how he would have progressed, but then again we wouldn't have had the chance to see Clark as much.
Don't forget about Lott either. |

I agree. I like Lott the best of the three. Forced to choose between Clark and Bowen, I would take Clark by a narrow margin because as people here have said, Bowen can't cover a snowman.

if bowen wasn't asked to cover someone one on one i would rather have him in the game. he is better on blitzes and he's another hard hitter to go with taylor and arrington.

We can blitz ST from the safety spot so I say Clark. For the money and the coverage. Plus I am still pissed Bown cost us a draft pick!!! Like others have said, I also like Lott better then both of them.

I think Lott is the best over all...
I love Bowen though. He looks like a damn serial killer with his shaved head and hits like he's actually trying to damage the guy. Can't have enough big hitters on our team...that was one of our biggest assets this year. After about the 4th or 5th week teams realized that even if they came in and were able to score some points the Skins would hit the crap out of them and make em pay for it. I'll never forget Pinkston pulling a "Sally wants his mommy!!" in that second eagles game. Never ever. |

We could get another SS to compete with what we have. Drafting one on the later rounds might work.

Change of subject. When do we finally get to demote Bugel to just O-line Coach. And get a real offensive coordinator in here.

both are imperfect players, but high effort guys. bowen is much more apt to make a spectacular play because of his raw speed, but is still a major liability in the defense because he takes such poor angles while closing. he tries to kill people and misses a lot of tackles for that reason. i do not know if that is something you can ever teach someone. it has to be an instinctive thing and once a defensive player starts thinking rather than reacting, he will always be a step or more slow. that is why bowen is an effective blitzer.. he just goes.
on the other hand, clark is a killer against the run. despite his small size, he plays the run like a linebacker and is able to shoot the gap and take down the back in the backfield before the play even starts. he is a total non factor against the pass. he is too small to match up against tight ends, and despite having played corner in college, he has very limited coverage skills. we are talking purely a zone player here, and one who has to be hidden from the offense. still, he seldom if ever was out of position, and is a sure tackler even in the secondary. both guys play fine special teams, but that is where bowen got hurt. lott is the mystery one. he should have better coverage skills because he played a fair amount of corner in college. and he should be a tackler because he has the size to play safety effectively. but he seems to lack a basic feel for the game. always a step slow and he seldom makes plays either in pass coverage or against the run. my guess is that unless he progresses to a whole new level, he could be the odd player out. when it comes down to it, what i would prefer the skins to do is to sign a veteran safety to complement taylor. just look at the value that harrison brought to the pats in solidifying the secondary. the chargers thought he was too slow and washed up. they essentially gave up on him. that is the type of guy the skins should keep an eye out for. then they could end up keeping the best out of clark, bowen and lott and dropping the other 2. one final guy to keep an eye on is dennard wilson. he was having a terrific camp until he broke his ankle. it will be interesting to see if he can pick up where he left off. |
