Rumor from Minneapolis

A friend and former colleague of mine called me about an hour ago to catch up on things and to tell me what the latest rumor in that part of the world is about Randy Moss. He says that the "word" out there is that the Vikes have contacted several teams who might have an interest in Moss and have let those teams know what it would take to get him. Here's the "supposed price tag":

Ravens: A first round pick this year and a fourth round pick this year and a first round pick next year and Adelius Thomas. [I might part with Thomas if I'm the Ravens but not with THREE draft picks in addition!]

Cardinals: Anquan Boldin plus a first round pick this year and a first round pick next year. [If I'm the Cards I might actually think about this one for a while, but still the price is awfully high.]

Jets: Santana Moss and Dwayne Robertson and a first round pick this year. [That's a more reasonable price for Moss but why do I think that Moss and Herman Edwards would get along like two scorpions in a bottle?]

Rams: Orlando Pace and a first round pick this year and a fourth round pick this year. [If the Rams do this they are absolutely nuts!]

REDSKINS: Hold onto your hats here folks! LaVar Arrington plus a first round pick this year and a second round pick next year and a fifth round pick next year. [Not only is that too high a price to pay for Moss - who will not be a Joe Gibbs kind of guy - but the dead money created by trading Arrington would mean releasing other players. Presumably that offer by the Vikes was labeled DOA out at Redskins Park.]

If true, those are some crazy asking price. Nobody in their right mind will pay that. I think Vikings will get less.

I wouldnt be all that surprised if Moss is a Ram next year. Dont the rams usually have trouble signing Pace, and isnt he a free agent this year. If so the rams will F-tag him and trade him for Moss.

Moss won't be in D.C. next year, I guarantee it.

A move like that would severly cripple the team cap-wise for years.

In fact I'm really doubtful a trade for Moss will happen at all. The asking price is very high and rightfully so, but I can't see somebody selling the farm for one player like that. Just too much to give up.

Could you please not use all caps when posting? It looks like you're shouting, and frankly it's kind of annoying to read.

Thanks

Is Moss really worth any of those, honestly?? How the hell did Terrell Owens, who in my opinion is more valuable than Moss, get traded for a second round pick, and they are asking these for Moss?? Its ludacris, in my opionion. I understand it should be a high price for him, but this stuff is crazy. The only one that is at all reasonable to me is the Jets; even thats pretty high, because Robertson is becoming very good.

TO was a free agent, philly gave up a 4th for him as a consolation prize before they went to arbitration!

Oh, alright. I remember that now. I just got confused because of the whole Ravens trade thing. Thx Daseal.

They are trying to make up for the disastrous trade for Herschel Walker that helped build the Cowboys all those years ago. They want the same thing in reverse.

But its negotiation - they will ask high and settle for what they can get.

I think they are smart to trade him though while he still has value, because that team has been seemingly build around accomodating Moss for a long time and that is no way to run a team, catering to a star. Sometimes you are smart to overlook odd behavior in a player if it doesn't harm the team. It's one thing to have players who behave eccentrically like John Riggins did, but you don't structure your team around appeasing them, which Gibbs would never do.

It's not Moss' fault that the Vikings catered and appeased him. That was what the Vikings coaches and management chose to do, creating Moss rules and rules for everyone else - and that destroys the fabric of team unity and with it the chance for real success.

Maybe Moss would fit in with the Raiders somehow.

That is not even a realistic offer. I hope we counter offered and said we will give you LaVar if you give us Moss plus draft picks for us.

For the record we would eat about $19 MILLION in deadcap by trading Lavar. Let's end the madness already.

its looks like MINN is trying to be on the good end of a hershall walker type trade.

if you ask me, those prices are too much. just on talent alone, he is worth 2 first round picks. but his salary is a huge problem. plus he isnt a high character guy. you cant afford to pay someone that giant contract with all the problems he has. he needs a babysitter. any team that gets him is going to have to ring in chris carter as his coach.

I think Moss at the Raiders is a disaster! We all know Norv turner isn't exactly a diciplinarian. I feel that's what Moss needs. He needs someone who has strict rules, but will budge a little bit. You can't go coughlin on him either! I think he'd do great at the jets. Reunite him with his college QB, who he said was the best QB he's ever played with.
