Cornering the Market
I probably shouldn't add to the confusion by starting yet another cornerback thread, but I thought it might be good to look at all the free agent cornerback moves in comparison with each other. And maybe that'll give us some perspective as to what the Skins and Smoot (and his agent) are each thinking.
Gary Baxter: Browns-6 years, $30 million. $10.5 million bonus Ken Lucas: Panthers-6 years, $36 million, $13 million bonus Anthony Henry: Cowboys-5 years, $25 million, $11 million bonus So that's a look at the major cornerbacks who have signed new deals, to give you an idea of what the market is dictating right now. I can't find any info elsewhere, but according to tonight's San Jose Mercury News: "The Chiefs were optimistic Friday that their recruiting efforts in free-agency would bring a contract agreement with cornerback Samari Rolle. The parties were making progress toward a long-term deal the Chiefs hope would at long last solidify the position. "I think we're close," coach Dick Vermeil said. "We have a very good opportunity there. But there are also some medical things that have to be cleared up. This doesn't mean some other team won't step in and sign him before we do. It's never done until a contract is signed."

Re: Cornering the Market
I'm just about tired of all this stuff about our cb position. I just wish that we would just go ahead and pay samari rolle his money and move one. I like Smoot alot but let's get real he is not worth no 14 million bonus. Look at the Rams in last year's preseason. They had him running circles out there. He is pretty good in our system that we are runnning but Rolle is the better athlete. Rolle is faster and smarter. We are built to win now so let's not put us in the hole giving away undeserving money. I would even give that kind of money to Ty Law at least he has proven to hold his own, especially against the colts' harrison (one of the better receivers in the game to go along with the best qb). Smoot just let me down and he is thinking about the team so I think we should just move on and teach him a lesson.

Re: Cornering the Market
Nfl Sirius radio is reporting that the dolphins will trade CB Patrick Surtain to Kansas City in exchange for RB Larry Johnson, if this is true this will be a huge deal, and it will mean that we will probably sign samari rolle.

Dumb move by the phin's, Johnson is nothing special I would think Surtain would bring back more than Johnson? I think KC would still try and sign Rolle regardless of that deal. |

Re: Cornering the Market
2nd we traded to get Cooley... and I don't remember the 5th.
I see Dolphins looking to fix their O line a bit in the first. Not with where they are but maybe a trade down or pick up a great player there. I don't expect the Dolphins to go WR. (Booker, Chambers, Boston) they could definitely go QB. |

Re: Cornering the Market
It sucks Antonio Pierce was an undrafted FA, because we would have gotten a compensatory pick if he had.
I did not know Antonio Pierce was born in Ontario, Canada...eh? |

Re: Cornering the Market
no we wouldn't have. we would have only gotten a pick if he was in his third year. last year was his fourth so he was an unrestricted free agent. that meant anyone could have signed him and we wouldn't have gotten anything.
