Cooley To See More Action

Cooley has alot of fans on this site and it looks like we will see him get the ball a little more this season. It would be nice to see him get around 600 yards and 8 to 10 TD's this year and it would not be surprising to see him become Ramsey's go to guy.

You people need to shut up about Cooley. Word might spread. Then someone might actually draft him as a starter in my FF league and I can't pick him up late. Keep it down!

Cooley definitely exceeded my expectations, though I thought he'd be pretty decent

After we drafted him I saw some highlight film on him and was very surprised how good he looked, my comparison at the time was to Brent Jones the old 49er TE, after watching him I wouldn't necassarily still make that comparison, but if I had to say 1 TE that he kind of reminded me of I would say Dave Casper the old Raiders TE, Cooley is a little bigger and probably a tad slower than Casper, but there are a lot of similarities between their 2 styles.

Re: Cooley To See More Action

Cooley's success last year, and expectations of further success this season are proof that Gibbs can and will adjust to today's league and to his players' strengths. Last year when the Taylor vs. Winslow debate was going on before the draft, an arguement was that Gibbs doesn't use a pass-catching TE very much, even if he is lined up at H-back. So they went with Taylor, and took Cooley in the 3rd. Then Cooley became the clutch receiver that he is, in a Gibbs offense. Just another sign that the offense will be much better this year.

You're exactly right. Look at Cooley's stat line (37 catches, 314 yards) and it further goes to solidify the rational behind the pick. Yes H-back is an important part of the offense, but it's not a gaudy position. Putting a Winslow there would be like taking a helicopter to the Circle K - it may be fast, and you certainly get there, but it's ultimately wasteful to everyone involved.

Helicoptor to the Circle K! Great analogy, and funny to boot.
