At least they threw downfield!

Yeah, there was a bad pass that turned into an INT and a couple incompletions, but for much of last year, the big gripe was that they didn't even seem to TRY to go deep (even though Gibbs claimed the plays were called, but the QB checked down or didn't have time).

With a little time and work, this offense could be pretty decent. Remember, Portis only ran the ball one time and Betts only a few. I am still very optimistic to see what they could do with a real gameplan. Ramsey just needs to calm down and get into a real rhythm.

Exactly. Finally someone on here who isn't jumping ship and calling for Gibbs' and Ramsey's head. Preseason is nothing like regular season. The players know it and the coaches know it. I'd love to lose almost every preseason game we play and win 10 games in the regular season. It has happened before... who was the coach of that team again...?

Admittedly, Ramsey looked shaky. He still has three more games to get it together. The O line looked great though, I thought.

i'm glad the oline was able to jump up from its piss poor performance at last weeks scrimmage to being great tonight.

lets hope the passing game can do the same.

We really can't get to worked up about that Ravens game, I saw highlights tonight and they are bringing everything but the kitchen sink on every play, team's right now are looking at personel and fine tuning, the Ravens are playing defense like it's the super bowl and they still lost.

Thats there defense, the 46 which requires alot of blitz. They are just playing there base defense. As were the Skins, in fact I saw them blitz the corners a few times even do the double corner blitz, and they still lost. I think they were just seeing what personnel can do what, therefore vanilla is out the door.

Re: At least they threw downfield!

the line was amazing, against one of the top 3 d-lines in the NFL. dockery owned Jenkins, really dockery did great and portis hit a great block during the game, that is a dominate line and we did a dominating preformance. We are run first and i am really happy about our line.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS AND HAIL O-LINE
HAIL YEAH

i said we had to look at the middle 6 Ramsey and his boys, well his boys did good........

BSB, Dockery had a good night? That's excellent news, Jenkins is a monster in there, I didn't see much in the way of highlights.

Re: At least they threw downfield!

Dockery thew Jenkins on the ground like a rag doll. I too was impressed with how our O-line played tonight, but the Jaguars didn't really blitz too much. I like to see how they well they pick up blitzs.

Also, I agree that tonight was Ramsey's first preseason game. But, he did not show ANY improvements after all those practices. He overthrew Patten couple of times when he was wide open, he's still throwing those check-down passes to RB's for 5 yards when we need 8 yds for first down. I've been supporting Ramsey for several years now, it's time for him to start performing.

Re: At least they threw downfield!

if you dont play well in practice and you dont play well in preseason, you're probalby not going to play well in the regular season.

remember its preseason for the other team too.

i dont care what the final score was, it is only preseason. but the short passes are pissing me off. moss 3 yard catch on 3rd and 4. dump passes to backs.
they are all great plays at certain times but that cant be our offence. 1 token deep ball a game just doesnt do it. this is getting scary.

Re: At least they threw downfield!

The screens looked good. AND they worked.

This is something they did not do last year and with Portis, these could really help to exploit blitzing defenses. Good job to Musgrave to help implement this and the shotgun.

Re: At least they threw downfield!

Remember, last week the line looked terrible. Pass protection was awful and everyone was saying how bad our line might really be.

Guess what? When they prepared to protect against a blitzing team that could actually put thier hands on our QB, they did great.

Now, Gibbs has no reason to show his best passing plays in preseason. He will be showing watered down versions of the ones that need the most work. No need to practice hitting Cooley in the flat. We know Ramsey can do that. That said, Ramsey missed 4 passes. The ones short of first downs are also attributable to the guys running the routes. That is something that can be fixd through coaching.

Penalties were few (except with the third stringers on the goal line) so that is another positive. Also, when the panthers did blitz, Ramsey checked off to the correct receiver and beat it every time.

Lets see what we fix from this game in the next one.

Yes before they would never run the screens but at least 3 in the game must be a record for Joe Gibbs. They worked and ran great.

Re: At least they threw downfield!

ramsey and brunell looked pretty comfortable using the shotgun. the offensive line (1st & 2nd string) looked really good.

the defense didn't look as good as last year but i didn't expect them to, they were missing way to many starters. taylor is really in the dog house, he didn't play with the first team but was forced to play with the second and he was on the field for a long time.
