It never ceases to amaze me...

According to Dr. Z -

"Say what you want about the Cowboys' Jerry Jones, but wouldn't you want to have a guy like him in your corner? During the offseason he left an owners' meeting early to fly east for a late contract negotiation with former Jets nose tackle Jason Ferguson. The Jets offered Ferguson $8 million in front and it was almost a done deal before Jones swung it by coming in at $9 million.

He's 30 and he's had weight problems through the years (that's Ferguson, not Jones), but he's the one guy Bill Parcells felt he had to have to make his new 3-4 defense work. So Jones gave the guy the VIP treatment. We're not talking about a glamour position here; we're talking about an owner-nose tackle sitdown. Contrast this, please, with a character such as Dan Snyder, whose team keeps drafting quarterbacks because he likes, as he's said, "sexy" picks."

Jerry Jones gives an older vet first class treatment to get him signed w/ a big old signing bonus and somehow its f***ing brilliant, but, when Danny Boy does it, its just mindless showboating.

I am sure Gibbs had NOTHING to do with the Campbell pick - you know the owner just flaking out again. Also, didnt Z crucify LDS and gang when they signed Springs??

It's one thing to say "Well they've sucked for a while, so they got to show me something before I'll acknowledge that they have turned things around."

It's another for Z to praise one owner (Jerry freaking Jones - of all people) for conduct (paying big bucks and giving first class treatment to ensure the signing of an older veteran player) almost identical to Snyder's conduct (Can anyone say "Redskins One"??) for which he only had scorn (hmmm - Randy Thomas anyone?) AND then to throw in a gratuitous dig for conduct (trading up to draft a player THE COACHES wanted) unrelated to the conduct he found praiseworthy in Jones. Hell, if anything - the Campbell pick shows how supportive of Gibbs Danny is. Remember, Ramsey was originally an ALL Snyder pick! AND - wasn't Snyder's "I like sexy picks" made a couple years ago and not even related to the Skins picking Campbell ??

God, these guys just piss me off.

Dr. Z and Peter King both simply hate the Redskins and everything they do.

Then again, until the Dan Snyder-"sexy" draft picks and free agent meetings generate some wins, we can expect more of this.

Screw it, doesn't change a thing. We are the only people that believe in US, We are the dedicated, We are the strong, We will stick this shit in these people's faces the day WE win. So much bull shit when two teams have the same f#!@$#!$ record that the damn media still gives preference to one f#$! !@$ team. IF the stinking cow f#$@! had won the superbowl peter king and his boy toy dr. Z and everyone else at SI would have a point but they didn't they actually got worse and at this pace they will win 2 next year and we got better and we will continue to do better.

I dont mind when people are critical of the Redskins. I dont mind when they are REALLY critical about the Redskins. But, when they are hypocritical about the Redskins, it really, really pisses me off.

Hopefully we don't find any of the hypocrites in here. We might have to ban them. By the way, who left the door open to let DaBoyz in? Note #1. to Daboyz: it's spelled c o w r o i d s or c o w g i r l z. Note # 2, can you please edit your posts prior to submittal, so we do not need the polish/coocamunga/english translator in order to read your post? It only furthers the idea that c o w r o i d s are i l l i t e r a t e (can't read or write!). Note # 3, I spelled your rightly assigned acronym slowly so you could understand it easier! Note #4, can you please add last names of c o w r o i d players, since we do not visit their open holed stadium (read toilet bowl) but once a year, and they, likewise only one time per year to our place?

Thats a hell of a sentance there. It's longer than most of my paragraphs lol. I wonder what a diagram of that sentance would look like...

Seriously though, you are right, but the only reason It pisses me off because he's finding something fairly trivial to write about, but still manages to glorify "america's team" and demean the skins. F'em.

Simple - it would look exactly like a diagram of the answer to Question 3.

Re: It never ceases to amaze me...

Anyone get the same annoyance from the Vikes this year? Everyone says they are going to be great because they brought in a bunch of free agents.

I just kept thinking how much we would have been lambasted for it; (It was nice not to have to so that this year for once!)

Re: It never ceases to amaze me...

Taking Dr. Z seriously, or just about anything SI writes anymore, is just plain silly. The man knows less about football than my lizard. My guess is that he used to write an entertainment column, but got fired because he wasn't very entertaining. It's a waste of time to read him. Peter King, on the other hand, is a pretty knowledgeable guy. He just does not like Dan Snyder. Take him with a grain of salt, and count on the team to make him eat his words this year.

see even the viks won a game in the playoffs but i completly understand that they are doing what we have been critized for but the cowF#@s had the same record as us and most of the media feels they are much better for some reason, atleast the people at SI feel that way

It's that "Parcells glow" - that's the only explanation.

The 2004 Cowboys lost 10 games. Seven of those games were by 14 points or more.

The 2004 Redskins lost 10 games. Seven of those games were by 7 points or less.

That's an indicator of something.

Great point Brudlee. I wish someone in the national media could figure that one out.

Yup..the best thing that could have happened--no more smoke and mirrors

Henry
Ferguson
Ware
Spears
Burnett
Canty

Heck, maybe Lavar Arrington could do us a favor and knock out Bledsoe so offense could take off..

Re: It never ceases to amaze me...

Dr. Z is a highly respected NFL journalist and analyst. He will most probably wind up in the NFL HoF as a writer. The chances that Danny Boy will make it there as an owner are far - far - slimmer.

If you want to say how brilliant Danny Boy was in signing Randy Thomas, you also have to wonder how the rest of the "Jetskins" signings turned out. Remember, all of them were part of his whirlwind activities in that giddy but ill-fated off-season. Two of the four signees are gone - having contributed marginally to Redskins' successes if at all - and the other one is still here but is hardly the greatest thing since sliced bread. Thomas is a starting OL and a good one. Hey, one out of four is better than zero out of four!

Now, is the signing of Jason Ferguson a critically important thing for the Cowboys? In the grand scheme the answer is NO. Ferguson is a better than average DL who fills a need for the Cowboys if they have any hope of installing an effective 3-4 defense. But that's all there is to that. He is not the missing piece to the puzzle that will win the Cowboys the Super Bowl.

In terms of "sexy picks/signings", it seems to me that the Skins have taken Ramsey in the first round and signed Brunell in the free agent market and then traded a passel of picks to be able to draft Campbell in the first round. All of this has been is "recent memory". So, let's not excoriate Dr. Z for noticing what has been the reality of the Skins' roster moves over the past few years. Reality may not always be pretty; in fact, sometimes Reality Bites!
