Anyone else pissed that Cleveland got a 5th rounder for Andre Davis?

First off, Im not bashing anyone in the front office, Im just bitching and moaning a little as Im prone to do after years of watching my beloved Skins rip my heart out season after season. That being said, I heard on talk radio this morning that the Pats traded a 5th round pick to the Browns for WR Andre Davis. A 5th rounder for Davis who was a 2nd round pick and who had injuries. We had Rod Gardner, a former 1st round pick who had a few good solid seasons, and we couldn't get anything more than what a 6th or 7th round pick from Carolina? Hindsight's 20/20, but maybe we should've just kept him longer.

We couldn't keep him longer - we needed his salary to sign our rookies.

We had also made it pretty clear very early that we would try to move him, both to satisfy his desires and fix our cap. That lowered the incentive for a team to give us much in return, since he had to go eventually.

I actually think its a steal for the pats. I've been a fan of andre davis' since his days at va tech. I don't know why the Falcons were trying to do this trade because him and vick has awesome chemisty at tech. I heard the Eagles tried to offer him a 7th rounder, but took New England's 5th rounder. I believe Andre Davis could be a 1,000 yard reciever if he could stay healthy. I think he was just in a bad situation in Cleveland.

YEah, I thought he kicked ass at Tech too, as I am a Hokie myself. However, Gardner has proven his worth in this league. I'll tell ya another college player that has surprisingly done very little, that's Quincy Wilson from WVU. That guy literally RAN OVER Va Tech and Miami, he was a stud. He landed on the Falcons practice squad and now he's 3rd string on the Bengals.

If you're still down in the Burg, I'm always drinking at BWW and would grab a beer sometime during the Skins games.

Imagine you are an NFL GM. You need to pick up a WR for your team who has some game experience.

Available at the moment are Andre Davis and Rod Gardner. Which one do you sign?

I'd take Davis in a heartbeat and maybe that's why he drew a higher price than Gardner. He's a better player than Gardner - - even though neither one is spectacular.

It's our fault. We gave Gardner the nickname '50-50'. That hurt his trade value. Let's not do the same to Ramsey.

Come on you can't be serious. Ramsey's lack of actions speak louder than any words we fans call him. Some team will be stupid enough to think that it's the Redskins inability to use him to his full capabilities. Let's wait and see if Ramsey has a Drew Brees season. Not likely.

SUNRA,

I don't understand why you dislike Ramsey so much when you defended Brunell so much last season. Brunell was god awful in 9 games. Ramsey has played poorly in games and very good in others.

Granted Ramsey threw two picks last week that cost us points, but he also put up 190 yards in one half of one game. Brunell played several ENTIRE games last season without throwing for more than 150 yards.

Re: Anyone else pissed that Cleveland got a 5th rounder for Andre Davis?

If we didn't have Antonio Brown, I'd be upset that the Skins didn't offer a 4th round pick for him. In 2002, he had over 1000 yards just returning kicks (21.4 yd average) and last year he took a pass reception 99 yards to the house. He is capable of big plays and has sure hands. Davis was a bargain to the Pats for a #5.

Gardner, on the other hand, was inconsistent and was not a big play threat. Yeah, he caught a lot of balls, but he dropped too many big ones. I was happy that the Skins got anything for him. Now, if he becomes a monster in Carolina, I'll be more upset.

The real question we should be considering is, what if Clinton Portis fails to become a game breaker this year and Ricky Williams comes onto the market? Do we deal?

Naw, we keep Ricky away from the Skins, even if he has a good year. I still think he has some reservations about football beyond this year. He just doesn't sound too convincing in his interviews about playing football for the long-haul. Furthermore, I'd be surprised if Portis didn't have a good year, I'm betting Pro Bowl. Besides he seems to be committed to helping the Skins win. We'll see....

5th round pick for Davis, 6th round pick for Gardner, it's essentially the same thing. When you get that deep into the draft, you're generally eyeing up certain players that nobody else has much interested in. There's a reason you only get 5 minutes on the clock during that 2nd day, and that is because it's pretty easy to get the players you're looking for at that level. Not many picks get stolen from you that late in the NFL draft.

Re: Anyone else pissed that Cleveland got a 5th rounder for Andre Davis?

On Coles vs Moss, I don't think we should focus on who will put up the bigger stats. Besides, how do you know which stats will help you win? Is it who has the most catches? Is it who has the most yards? Or maybe it's a matter of who has the most yards per catch?

Coles might put up better numbers than Moss in terms of catches and yards, but I'll bet Moss puts up the better Yards per Catch. But that's not the point, I think you have to look at their effect on the entire team. Given the fact that the Washington Redskins are a run-first team and don't have one of the best QBs in the league, you have to ask this question: which receiver will have a better impact on the Redskins running game? If you are putting a strategy together for the Redskins, you have a strong line, Portis, Betts, and Nemo for short yardage, and you're thinking run first. We need a receiver to open up running lanes, and the best way to do that is with a speed demon with big play ability. Safeties and corners need to respect Moss more than they need to respect Coles and his damaged toe.

I think Moss has a more positive impact on OUR TEAM. Who cares what the stats say.

Right, I was just looking at that BS "CBS Sportsline" preview for the season and the Cowboys were 14th in yards on offense. I think we all know what record THEY had.
