Walt Harris Sucks
This guy is horrible. He couldn't tackle for crap against the Eagles and this week he gets beat by a 4th string wideout on a fly pattern. Then to top it off he jumps offsides on an extrapoint trying to make up for it. There has got to be some one better. Heck call Barry Wilburn out of retirement!

Re: Walt Harris Sucks
Next thing you'll be calling for is a return of Stanley "the Sheriff" Richard to fill in for the injured safeties.
That won't work either...

Re: Walt Harris Sucks
You know, after yesterdays game, I knew there would be a thread with this title lol. Seriously, though, he does miss tackles and he plays inconsistantly. Which is the problem with phillip daniels as well, and with a couple of other people on our team. I don't expect anyone to be perfect all the time, but when in one game you look decent, and in 2 or 3 you miss several tackles, blow coverage, make stupid penalties, etc... something has to be done.
It is suprising, however that we have a rag-tag d-line, and we can shut down runners (after fixing that right side somehow ) but after addressing the secondary during the last couple of offseasons extensively, we have gaping holes in our passing defense occasionally. The middle of the field was wide open for the taking yesterday, and a terrible QB made us look stupid. That shouldn't happen. |

Re: Walt Harris Sucks
guess meathead (ST) is fairly important then... and griffin as the only real DL threat.

Re: Walt Harris Sucks
Not only is he missing tackles and getting torched, but he and other DB's have a problem hitting the right angles going after ball carriers. They need to bench Harris and start anyone else that can cover "sometimes" and make tackles. Making a tackle is a lost art in the NFL. Just running into people with hopes of them falling is the norm. That is to be expected though....if a blade of grass touches a persons knee, he is down. "Back in the day", you had to wrap them up and keep them down. That does not seem to be taught these days.

As for the secondary, with a lack of any consistent pressure up front, it's really making their job more difficult than it should be. QBs have all day to let their WRs get open, that's a tough task for any DB. |

Re: Walt Harris Sucks
In response to the Harris sucks : I do believe that although he was beaten like a drum on some plays it was not all his fault. Looking back, on a couple of the deep balls he looked like he was allowing the receiver to get by him, assuming he had help deep. I am fualting our #20(I have retired from trying to spell his last name) more than anyone. Play after play he was late, sometimes not even getting there. Springs and Harris both were trying to talk to him on the sideline after a couple of those deep balls. I believe they were trying to explain what coverages they were playing. Corners in the NFL are only as good as their D-lines pass rush. I dont care what corner it is, if they have to cover a WR for more than 4 seconds or so, the WR is going to get open. I believe thats what benefitted our D last year and in the early going this year. The games we get no pressure in the back field are the games we are giving up the big plays. Whether is LB or Lineman, somebody has to get pressure. Harris is just one of the Average CB who needs a good pass rush to look good. There are only maybe 2 or 3 guys in this league that can flat out cover someone(contradicting my earlier statement) and we gave one of them up a couple of years ago. Smoot is getting exposed in Minnesota too. I have seen him get beat several times this year.

saden1:
Stanley Richard was as effective at safety as a snowman. Even before the Redskins acquired him via free agency, Richard was the weak link in the Chargers' secondary. Here's something to look for. During the ramp up to the Super Bowl, you''ll have the opportunity to see the game films of all the previous Super Bowls. When you find that the SF/San Diego game is on, watch it or tape it or TiVO it. SF scores 4 very early TDs and in each case the guy who is beaten in the end zone - or at the three yard line going into the end zone - was Stanley Richard (#24). His idea of a fundamentally sound tackle would be to wrap his arms under the runner's shoulder pads and then try to bulldog him to the ground. Using that technique, he routinely game up about 3-5 extra yards to a runner after he made the initial contact. :frusty: Was he really that bad? He may have been worse...

Re: Walt Harris Sucks
I have a bunch of friends who are Bears fans and when we picked up Harris they all warned me that he would cost us 2 games all by himself by missing tackles and wandering around the secondary in a general daze. I didn't see what they were talking about during the first few games but it looks like he's showing his true colors now.

Re: Walt Harris Sucks
Why was Pierson Prioleau even playing in the game? I know Taylor is hurt but what about Bowen, at least he hits hard, Prioleau looked like such as scrub. Harris should be benched in lue of Rogers, I know he is a rook but I would rather have a rook get torched and look bad (learning from his mistakes) then have Harris as a vet embarrass our organization week in and week out.

Re: Walt Harris Sucks
I was wondering about Bowen myself. I suppose maybe Pierson Prioleau is faster than Bowen...but he certainly appeared to be caught out of position quite a bit. I just hope Taylor is healthy and back in there this week.
