Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/re...elease_id=1944
Vote Monk and Grimm! OK - I added that Grimm is a finalist, but it didn't update the title of the thread. Maybe a moderator can do that for me? |

Re: Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
Great News for Redskin fans!
My crusade to get Monk enshrined may end soon - I look forward to finding a life. Interesting that Lofton (another WR who is spoken in the same breath as a WR who deserves to get in) did not make the cut this time. My hope is that Irvin's recent legal issues, while not disqualifying him from induction, will convince voters to lay off him this year - clearing the way for #81.

Re: Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
Lenny P said a few weeks ago he thinks Irvin's latest "issues" most definitely will keep him out of the HOF discussion this year. He said it might not be the right thing, but many voters won't be able to overlook his off the field problems.

Re: Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
Funny how off field stuff has kept Monk out basically and maybe now the same thing to another guy will help him. His less than out-goingness with the media when he played has been his biggest hurdle.

Re: Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
Aikman and White are automatics. The only other inevitable on the list is Irvin who has his issues. To me, if they pass over both Grimm and Monk it would have to be a willful, anti-Redskins act. The other names on the list are not that compelling.
LC Greenwood was a good player but the Steelers are not the only team to win 4 Super Bowls. Greenwood is the equivilant of Keena Turner for the 49ers. The press gets way too carried away with those Steeler teams. Next year I expect them to nominate Terry Hanratty.

Re: Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
I wish I was wrong, and I hope I'm wrong, but i dont think Monk will make it now and maybe not ever, listening to my local nfl beat writer John mclain, who is on the hall of fame voting committee,he said theres not that many people backing monk,he says monk wasnt even the best reciever on the team,Clark was, blah, blah, blah, and mclain's wife is a huge skin fan and even she cant get him to vote Monk in,I dont know whats wrong with these sportswriters that dont think Monk belongs in the Hall

Re: Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
YOu know, i'd love for Monk and Grimm to get in. But the fact is, sportswriters won't give him the recognition he deserves. You know Fritz Pollard? The guy played in like the 1920's, but he just got inducted last year. So basically i feel like the same thing is gonna happen to Monk, once everyone's forgotten about him he'll make it in.

Re: Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
I pray for both Monk and Grimm. It is absurd that Monk is not in already. We've already discussed this many times... I just hope Monk gets in this year. Such a class guy compared to a guy like Michael Irvin. Just ludicrous. GO MONK!

Re: Monk and Grimm are HOF finalists
I'm on record here saying that Art Monk's performance on the field earned him a place in the HoF.
Now I would like for all of the people who think that Art Monk is the poster child for getting screwed over by jealous sportswriters to go and look up Monk's stats and Andre Reed's stats. After you look at them side-by-side, tell me why Reed isn't ALSO in the HoF as soon as Monk gets there? They are pretty much equivalent in terms of career numbers. And by the way, why isn't there a drumbeat about Reed's nomination or lack thereof in the national press? The football HoF voting process leaves much to be desired - - as does the voting process for the baseball HoF. But for this year's class Reggie White should be a unanimous selection - he was the best defensive lineman in the NFL for the better part of a decade - and Troy Aikman should be close to unanimous. After that, it will be a crap shoot for the other slots.
