Any update on Campbell?
Has anyone heard anything about the progress of Jason Campbell. Any feelings on when he will be ready, if ever?

Athletically: A 6'5 guy with scrambling ablility and a bullet for an arm. AND he prefers to stay in the pocket, where he can have great success staring over the D's. His throws look effortless. Mentally: He is humble and hard-working out of Taylorsville, Mississipi. He definitely had a lot of vitamin C growing up, because he is Cool, Calm, and Collected.

Re: Any update on Campbell?
This is what gibbs said in his press conference today:
Continued Gibbs: "We see a lot in practice. My impression is that he's very accurate. I think he's going to be a guy that can really roam with a football. I think he's going to make plays with his feet. I think he has a sense of what the pocket is. He'll slide. He's going to be hard to sack because he's so big. We've seen a lot out of him. "Now, he needs to play. We'll get into that. I laughingly told him, 'Take the hat off and throw it away. You're getting ready to go work. You're going to have to earn your money now.' Carlos Rogers was yelling at him, too. He said, 'I told my buddy that he has to start earning his money. The rest of us are out there playing.' Anyway, I think Jason had a year that was probably good for him. He got to hear it, see it and go through it. He probably learned a lot." It sounds like he'll be playing alot more. I'm excited to see what he can do. Ramsey is definitely gone. |

Re: Any update on Campbell?
Here's a link to the complete article on what Gibbs thinks of Campbell - it's about halfway down, first half is about Brunell.
Redskins.com: Gibbs on Campbell It sounds encouraging. Not to read way to much into it, but it sounds to me like Gibbs has had him learning alot this past year and he might be in soon. I'd expect to see alot more of him during preseason games in the very least. Actually beating out Brunell/Ramsey for the job looks like a bit of a long shot, but who knows. I'd love to see someone young and with alot of potential leading the team. I know Brunell did a great job this season and he offers the experience and maturity of an older player, but it always bothers me in the back of my mind that we know he's not around much longer. He's just a short-term solution. I can't wait for the day when the Redskins return to the status of a real NFL powerhouse with CONSISTENCY at as many positions as possible. That means a franchise QB who will be with us most of his career, not shuffling someone new in every season.

Re: Any update on Campbell?
i can't wait for pre-season because campbell is going to play, and really impress all of us. not only is he big, but he has a very accurate arm and is smart. i think he might even beat out brunell for the starting job.

I'd say Simms and Manning haven't been spectacular, but their teams DID make it to the playoffs and I don't think either are solely to blame for their teams getting knocked out of the playoffs. There are alot of teams starting young QBs, some with very little success. Alex Smith has been absolutely destroyed in his starts, though he is surrounded by a lousy team. I think we have the talent in place in all the other positions on the offense (gratned we need a few good signings this offseason) that we wouldn't be throwing Campbell to the dogs (a la Alex Smith). You never know how he's going to do until you try him out, and I for one wouldn't mind seeing him sooner rather than later. I trust whatever decisions Coach Gibbs makes, as he knows a hell of alot more about quarterbacking than I do. I guess my point is I really don't see any compelling reasons to NOT start Campbell sooner rather than later.
