ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060208/...night_football

Quote:
Former quarterback Joe Theismann, Washington Post columnist Tony Kornheiser and Mike Tirico will be the broadcast crew for "Monday Night Football" next season as the long-running show shifts to ESPN from ABC.
At least the Skins will get some love on Monday nights!

EDIT: I always miss the Newswire.

What are the odds Tony K falls asleep by halftime of the first game? ANd does this mean that he's going to write even less for the Post than he already does?

Is Kornheiser any good? I have only seen him on PTI, where I think he is pretty good.

Does this mean Theismann will let him talk?

Thank the lord they broke up that Sunday night crew.

They were b.r.u.t.a.l.

Tony needs to stick with PTI(which I love watching). He fell asleep during the Redskins demoralizing victory over dallas, this should eliminate him from being an broadcaster.

The end of the game doesn't roll around until 12:45 - 1:30. If you have to get up at 5:00 - 5:30 a.m. like I do, it makes for a killer day!

Gotta love those words: Demoralizing victory over Dallas! It will start to beat a familiar refrain when we do it again!

Thumbs down Kornheiser will make it tough for me to watch monday nights

I am pretty dissapointed about mr. tony being on monday night football. I used to listen to his show, watch PTI, and read his stuff in the post but I cant stand him anymore. He hardly ever even goes to games. I pay to go to games because I love it. He gets paid to do sports and doesnt like going to games. Now they give him a huge check and he suddenly wants to go to every monday night game. He is too self righteous for me. Lots of people around here dont like him.

he complained about having to do it for two weeks an about how he's not sure he can tay up, he doesn't fly, he doesn't know if JT will ever shut up etc.
He doesn't just not go to games though... he doesn't go to anything. I don't know why you'd think he's self-righteous though...

Re: Kornheiser will make it tough for me to watch monday nights

i have heard some comments from people who work in the same building he does his radio show from and aperently he is not a nice guy. when they moved the show to the building he said he wouldnt go unless they provided a car survice. he comes across to me as a guy who thinks regular fans like you and i are somehow below him. people say they see him on the golf course and he is very unpleasant also. i stopped listening to his show when he did a piece on water gate as if his opinion on politics is somehow insightful and superior because he writes for the post on games and issues i see live and he does not. oh, and how sweet is this sight. just joined today and i love it already.

Tony is not in the same league as Cosell. Listening to Cosell pontificate was a joy for anyone who loves words. He was a true artist. If Tony were ten times more pompous and 100 times more intelligent, you might have something.

I love Tony K. And Theisman has gotten pretty good over the years.. I think this could be a great crew for Monday night. Way to go ESPN.

TK will become the modern version of Howard Cosel. He knows sports, he's opinionated, and he's funny. People will be tuning in to hear what he has to say more than to watch the crummy game.

That's a lotta' Skin's weight on MNF. Should be great! I can see TK being the new Cosell. However, with Theisman, there will be much competition for airtime

Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico

TK and Denis Miller are nothing alike. One is a sports writer who knows what he is talking about, the other is a comedian who wrote his "material" for the broadcast before the game started. I think TK will do a good job if not a great one. The ultimate question is of of course will anyone care about who is in the booth now that Monday Night Football it is on cable? I rarely if ever watch it in whole it unless the Skins were playing.

TK is pretty rehearsed. I agree, he won't be as bad as Miller on MNF, but Kornheiser's quips are very Miller-esque (but not as funny).

I thought local markets were going to get it on ABC? Is that right, or is that just wishful thinking?
