Prisco, Judge Rip Redskins re: Randle El's Contract
Pete Prisco and Clark Judge are ripping the Redskins for giving Randle El a nice big contract. These media folks are going to be hating a lot in the next few days, drawing comparisons between this offseason and 2000.
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9297761 Prisco's Comments After trading for Brandon Lloyd Saturday, the Redskins spent big to land Randle El on Sunday. That is a major question mark in my mind. Randle El had 35 catches last year as a No. 2 receiver for the Steelers. Does that warrant a seven-year deal with $12 million in guaranteed money? Please. We know the Redskins are desperate for help to go with Santana Moss, but paying that kind of money for a guy who has never been a top receiver on his team is crazy -- Dan Snyder crazy. There are some Steelers coaches who wonder if he's even ready to be a No. 3 receiver. Remember Az-Zahir Hakim when he left the Rams to sign with the Lions. He was never good enough to be a go-to receiver. Neither is Randle El. The Redskins blew this one. Judge's Comments The Redskins paid him what? I like this guy, too, but more as a third receiver and a special-teams gamebreaker. So paying him $31 million makes absolutely no sense to me. Of course, I don't understand paying assistant coaches $2 million each, either. But these are the Redskins, and they were determined to beef up their offense now that Al Saunders is in town and after they had time to digest films of the playoffs when the defense carried them. Randle El is versatile. He can return punts. He can make catches. He can throw passes. But he's not a difference maker. If he were Pittsburgh wouldn't have let him walk. Remember, this is the team that three years ago paid Laveranues Coles a $13 million signing bonus -- only to return to sender two years later. He gives Washington depth at the position but little more. |

who the hell are these guys. Writers get publicity by writing shit about the skins. I don't care. Let them bitch and cry hoping redskins nation talks about them. I refuse to click that link.

I can't say that I disagree. I wish they had passed on him but that being said, he will give them some options.

i agree that we overpaid for him...we gave him the same amount of money as moss
didnt the bears only offer him $20 million for 6 years so then we offer him $31 million for 7 years if that was our main competition we didnt have to go that high |

and whoever said it was a seller's market is right. the FA WRs suck, the draft WRs suck. either you have guys or you don't. hopefully BOTH of our WR aquisitions can step it up. otherwise randle-el is just a really expensive punt return guy. I think gibbs might be gearing up to build a SB winner this year and blow it up in a couple years... i'm really not sure yet. |

anyways, we'll see. if the cap explodes again its not a problem, but the more huge contracts you pass out, the more guys you have to let go once the salaries start going up. |

Re: Prisco, Judge Rip Redskins re: Randle El's Contract
I'm definetely at the point where I don't care what these guys think. If these are the guys Gibbs wants, and this is what it takes to get them, then it's fine by me.
THese are the same guys who cried "cap hell" for years, who said Gibbs lost it, etc. Whatever. Oh, and no doubt, these guys felt we blew it on the coles trade as well. PS--it's a sellers market right now. Players are in a strong position. Prices are going to be high.

Re: Prisco, Judge Rip Redskins re: Randle El's Contract
All I have to say is this:
1. We made the playoffs last year and won in the first round at that. 2. Name the last time we made it to the playoffs and who was coach. 3. How long did it take us to get to the playoffs under said coach. 4. How long did it take us to get to the playoffs with Gibbs as HC. My point being through this extended line of questioning is this: when Pete "my boyfriend prefers Crisco" Prisco and Clark "Kant" Judge can take a team who hadn't finished above .500 for almost 5 freakin years and turn them into a playoff team (who no less loses to the team who ends up in the Super Bowl) then they can talk shit. Until then, they are nothing more than cud chewing laptop pecking sports hacks writing controversial articles so they can get beer money for the next few days.

Re: Prisco, Judge Rip Redskins re: Randle El's Contract
Redskins fans....we must be used to the criticism because we are known to pay for players that didnt yield a playoff apperance. So we should shake off the haters and know that Gibbs is controlling D. Snyders money and who care how much we paid as long as we are "under the cap" and these players arent fossils, this is a youth movement.

Re: Prisco, Judge Rip Redskins re: Randle El's Contract
Below are just a few of the comments made about the Coles for Moss trade last season:
1. The opinions on the Redskins vary, and I’m thinking this is a 7-9, 8-8 or even a 9-7 team depending on the play of whoever is the QB. Writers like Len Pastabelly, Pete Prisco, and Dr. Z have all clubbed the Redskins and penciled them in for a disastrous season. It’s obvious that at least some of these writers have a personal vendetta against Daniel Snyder’s Redskins. In Pastabelly’s case, I’ve heard that he has it in for the skins because he found out about Gibbs’ hiring, and was lied to by Skins officials when he tried to confirm it, only to be scooped by Washington Post writer Mark Maske. I have no idea is this is true; it’s just what I’ve heard. Regardless, it shouldn’t cloud the judgment of people who get paid to report about, and analyze teams. Back to the team. I think the Redskins ground attack will be an absolute force, as Clinton Portis has looked like a monster this preseason. He’s put on 20 pounds, but has lost none of the speed or elusiveness that makes him special. John Jansen returns healthy (even though he recently broke his thumb; a mere scratch for an old-school player like Jansen), and Chris Samuels appears to be reinvigorated. The Skins WRs are nothing special, and if teams are in fact able to stop Portis, I think Santana Moss and David Patten will be hard-pressed to take the pressure of the running game, and that’s where the QB comes in. 2. Will Joe Gibbs get it turned around in Washington? No, and, trust me, it hurts to say it. The classy Gibbs was a great coach who pulled the most out of his clubs in the 1980s. But that was two decades ago, and Gibbs last year seemed out of step with the times. I know, the Redskins changed their offense and blocking schemes, but does anyone really believe this team is better with Santana Moss instead of Laveranues Coles? Without Fred Smoot? Without Antonio Pierce? Plus, what's the deal with Sean Taylor? Then there's this: If the organization doesn't believe it can win with Patrick Ramsey, as the draft of first-rounder Jason Campbell suggests, why should we? 3. And just how much damage has been done? Plenty. And I am not referring to the trade down from Coles to Santana Moss who will be his replacement, though that is a significant dropoff. Moss is to small to be a durable or effective WR over the course of a season. He’s a wonderful deep threat when healthy, though I would use him from the slot in 3 WR sets a lot. He lacks physical courage and generally will be exactly what he was in New York, and erratic and undependable player. Throwing salt on the wound, Moss has been sitting out of voluntary workouts while demanding a new deal from the Redskins. Take this slow. Moss, who is an average player AT BEST, and has done NOTHING with his new team to merit a big pay day is creating a bad impression with this new team by sitting out of these workouts while demanding a new deal that the team cannot afford to give him until June 1st at the earliest (and even then it would be a bad idea). I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Okay, now how much credibility do we really have to give these morons in March? How silly they look today. |
