Portis wanted Skins to sign Edge

Quote:
Although he's set as the starting running back, Portis tried in vain to convince Edgerrin James to join the Redskins. James signed a four-year, $30 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
"I kept calling E.J. to come up here, and we would have had one of the most dangerous backfields ever," he said. "Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen co-existed. I told him to sign for less money, and he wouldn't have to do as much work. We would have run into the record books."
wow... that wouldn't have been insane. Portis really liked his friends from miami. It definately could have added extra (productive) seasons to their careers.

I agree. I know AL did a decent job in St. Louis getting the ball to all those WRs...but he only worked with ONE RB...In KC he had 2 backs and one was either hurt or crying about not getting the ball...I dont think getting Edge would have been worth it.

Hes not a Cane, but Shawn Springs said we should also bring in Charles Woodson to be our nickel corner. These guys really want to just win!

Woodson wouldn't be the nickel corner if he came here. And if you thought Lavar was hurting the team by freelancing, then you probably don't want to see C Wood in burgandy anytime soon.

That would have been a Madden-like offense!

Definitely a pipe dream, but something nice to daydream about that's for sure!

Re: Portis wanted Skins to sign Edge

just imagine a split backfield with thoose two, plus moss and llyod split out and cooley at TE. The D for the other team would start to cry half way through the snap count.

Re: Portis wanted Skins to sign Edge

All I can do Is laugh because that would be the scariest thing I've seen in a while. Portis and James in the backfield ? I could just picture the motions and shifts, literally guessing who is going to get the ball. Those two split behind Brunell ? With the line that the Skins have, damn Clinton. Keep recruiting ! Man I like that guy as a Redskin !

Re: Portis wanted Skins to sign Edge

This is funny, I just finished a season on Madden where I used a fantasy draft. I kept the core of the Skins (Brunell, Moss, Cooley, Portis, most defense and O-line) but had Edge, Reggie Wayne, TJ Housh and Steven Jackson (3rd down back, worked great on screens). Oh yeah, Vanderjagt replaced Hall too. I also ran a lot of 4-receiver sets with Moss, Wayne, Housh, Patten spread out. It wasn't even fair.

I won the Super Bowl, of course! I never though it could be have been reality.

I'd still like to see Portis win MVP this year, so in a way I'm glad this didn't happen. Besides, Rock Cartright...

Re: Portis wanted Skins to sign Edge

Only problem with Edge coming here was the fact that he knew this was his last chance at a big contract, and we already have crazy money invested in Portis.
