So Thurman Thomas gets caught with half a joint... ok, is it me or is this just way tmi? it's all over the front pages of sports web sites.

I understand the need for role models, but c'mon- this guy's a couple years removed from the L and it's half a joint!

It just sucks that only negative press seems to splash headlines, when i'm sure there's a bunch of positive stuff going on that we never see.

positive news doesn't stick out in people's minds, while pretty much only negative news is what sells.

I don't feel sorry for celeberties getting bad press. Most athletes or stars wouldn't be living in the big houses and driving big cars if it weren't for the publicity. The other side of the coin is that you can't be stupid, at least not in public.

Suddenly, the kid turns 27 and he gets all philosophical. I agree though, that this is sort of a non-story but even less of a story would be "Thurman Thomas serves food at area soup kitchen"

Hey, I might be out in Los Angeles in July for work. If you're in town I'm looking you up.

Ole Thurman had unfortunate timing is all. If this were the football season you would'nt even have heard about it.

Right on, Matty. It's a slow news week from an NFL stand point. Maybe that explains the crazy Peter King Flame War going down on another thread.

We really need training camp to start.

Is 1/2 a joint even a crime? What is it a misdemeanor? Who the hell cares. I'd rather read about what Peter King was smoking when he wrote that damn article.

Bleed: getting caught with a seed is a crime. That's why our prisions are full and our taxes are high. We like to toss people in for virtually anything.

Its a crime but im pretty sure its just a misdemeanor. He'll pay a fine that he can easily afford.
Now if he was selling it to the little league team he coached...thatd be different.

Players dont care about fines or speeding tickets, an extra 200 a year in raised insurance rates means nothing. It costs them omre to correct their public image than anything.

It's not a big deal in and of itself. However, it's an illegal substance and that's the bottom line. He knew it, he had it anyways, and now he's got to pay a price (however small).

He's a celebrity and he's going to get nailed for it, just as any other celebrity would.

It all depends on what the state laws are as far as how much = a felony, etc.

There are players and ex-players for whom any drug possession charge would seem hypocritical. Thurman Thomas has never to my knowledge (limited though it may be) made any strong anti-drug statements, so once this news is reported, I don't think he should be especially raked over the coals for his transgression. It is news, and I believe it would be reported any time of the year if a probable Hall of Fame RB gets arrested for drug possession. I can't see the value of examining the issue of this arrest further than it has been, though.

It kind of puts a new spin on the time he forgot his helmet, though.
