Junior Seau a Redskin??

Just got a heads up that on ESPN Cold Pizza that Junior Seau is talking to the Redskins. He wants More than the vet minimum.

How do you guys feel about this possibility?

I'd rather Rocky work in with him than Holdman.

He's nowhere near the player he was, and would basically be depth. The upside is that he's not going to make a mental mistake if he has significant playing time.

I've got real mixed emotions about this. I think this is probably coming from the Seau camp rather than us.

I don't think its a good idea. We have a lot of young talent at linebacker and I think seau is over-the-hill.

This seems like a big reach. I wouldn't be surprised if Gibbs or Cerrato or Williams hasn't even heard this rumor yet and will laugh about it later in the day. How do these rumors get started will be the standard response? Dan Snyder learned this kind of mistake long ago even though Seau would come cheap. We don't need any more veteran character on this team anyways.

Apparently we have a decent amount of cash leftover. I'd sign him to a one-year deal with that leftover cash. Let him play until Rocky is ready, then have him be a decent backup.

I agree with this. We have some money left to spend and our linebacking corps is very young save Washington, and I would have to consider him an upgrade over Holdman. The real question is how much gas does this guy have left in the tank?

Let's not forget about Chris Clemons.

I don't really see the point of a move like this. I don't see Seau as much of an upgrade over Clemons, McIntosh, or even Holdman for that matter.

I tend to agree with you there (though he probably is an upgrade of Holdman)...I just dont see any need to pay anything for an over the hill vet. We are building a great young core, and I think we need to concentrate on that. That said, he probably would be an excellent mentor for McIntosh...but it just doesnt seem worth it to me.

Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??

It's just a signing I don't take an issue with. Clemons will get his time, but I'd rather have someone in place in case Clemons isn't up to the task that's a proven vet. I most DEFINITELY wouldn't break the bank for him, but if he signs a reasonable contract, why not?

That being said, that's the only position on the Skins I will say this for. I don't propose signing Ty Law or someone like that for one year.

Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??

To be honest I'm not sure if he is worth it but then again he can be leader and tutor the young guys. What position will he play? During his days with SD he was a beast MLB. With the Fins I think he was a OLB.

p.s. He'll be nearly 38 when the season starts. That's pretty damn old.

I'd pass.

Over the hill vet looking for one last payday. I wouldn't give it to him.

Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??

What's does a little more than vets minimum mean any ways? He's like a vets vet so what exactly is the vets minimum for a player with 15 years of service?

Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??

For this season, I envision McIntosh getting a lot of the starting time. GW likes to break his rookies in slowly - so he might try to do what he did with Carlos Rogers last year. Rogers opened the season as the nickel, but as he realized that Walt Harris blew chocolate starfish, he started playing Rogers. And Rogers did real well.

Same thing goes here, I think. We'll start off with Clemons and Holdman competing for the job. If they stink, Rocky will get in there a lot. But I don't see GW signing Seau unless he thinks it's a major upgrade over what he has. It's not what we have at the position NOW that matters. It's what GW thinks we're GOING to have come midseason. It's Rocky's spot, it's just GW is going to take some time to hand it to Rocky. And Seau is not going to get signed just to be another body along the line.

This coaching staff likes to promote players from within when possible. They're going to let the current LBs battle it out until Rocky takes over.

Just to elaborate on your point about GW bringing his rookies along slowly, Rogers also had injury problems in the preseason which undoubtedly slowed his development and hindered the trust factor.

If Rocky stays injury free I can see him working his way into the lineup much quicker than Rogers did.
