Notes from the Cowboys Camp.
Don't know if anyone is interested - if you aren't then this thread will just drift away - but I thought I would share the view from the Cowboys camp as far as I have gathered. (From blog camp reports, local Media camp reports, Parcells press conferences, and reading between the lines of the 'official' reports on dallascowboys.com)
Good news first. Defense LB Ware - looks unblockable. Ellis - struggling a little at the LB position ( of course. New position after 9 years but if it works he bookends Ware as a pass rusher) FA Ayondele - doing well in new position at ILB. James - going steady Singleton - Steady, (injuries during the season are his problem) Burnett - not bad, starting to look like a second round pick FA Boiman - Looks Great one play, gets burned the next Carpenter - have not heard much regarding this first rounder. He is behind Ellis, Singleton. Surprise of the rest? - Guy named Junior Glymph. DE Canty - controlling one side of the line. Looks real good. Spears - meniscus scope, riding the bicycle. Coleman - haven't heard much Ratliff - steady Hatcher - surprise 3rd rounder looking alright. Surprise of the rest? - haven't heard of anyone standing out NT Ferguson - Looking Good. The only NT that looks good. Thomas 'Pepper' Johnson - OK Montavious Stanley - this years 6th rounder looks out of shape. Surprise? - Sam Tualealea, looks very strong. FS Davis - starter wasn't that good last year, getting shot - twice - didn't help. Watkins - this 6'5" centrefielder might just start. Practising with the 1st team. and then just a bunch of guys. SS Williams - signed a contract. Haven't heard a peep. Beriault - last years sixth rounder is limping again. and then just a bunch of guys CB Newman - looks like money. Think Pro Bowl. Henry - started slow but now he is rolling. Reeves - looks like he will take Glenns nickle spot. Looks real good. Glenn - looking slower than last year. best of the rest - Lenny Williams is surpising people. Now the Offense. I am just going to talk about the Oline. Why? The Oline looks terrible and the Offense can barely get a play off. RT - The Italian side. Pettitti - Hearing a lot of complimentary stuff about his offseason work. I have not heard a lot of complimentary stuff about his training camp work. Fabini - getting beat by street free agent signings. Looks pretty bad. Colombo - Might just win the starting job. Former 1st rounder with the Bears (3 or 4 years ago then blew a knee and got cut a little after) is getting all kinds of praise from observers. RG Rivera - the only certainty on the line. Looks fully recovered from the back surgery of last summer (2005). Peterman - looking like a wasted pick from three years ago. Parcells can barely look at him without derision. Procter - not bad. C Johnson - smart player. Calls the defensive formations at the line really well. Bulked up over the summer. Getting pushed into Bledsoe Grill by street free agents. Gurode - Very stout at the point of attack. Doesn't read defenses very well. LG Kosier - pulls very well. Gets to the second level very well. Getting Bull Rushed by the 1st team defense. Tarullo - who? LT Flozell - looks in better condition than ever, but doesn't have his football hat on yet after season ending surgery last year. A beat slow. McQuistan - not bad for a 7th rounder. Not ready to play though. If this Oline doesn't gel in the next few weeks, we won't do very well this season. If it does? We will do well.

Re: Notes from the Cowboys Camp.
Newman in the pro-bowl? Doubt it.
At least you are honest. I have heard confirmation that the O-line is in big trouble. The joke is that when Bledsoe is carted off the field, T.O. will be yelling at him that he was open. I have been saying all along that letting Larry Allen go was a huge mistake. People said that he was over the hill and washed up. I say he was still the best thing that Dallas had. I sure wish I had that 600 pound bench pressing bastard. |

Terrance Newman did not allow a single TD in coverage last year. The Oline is not very good right now against the 1st team defense. When the third team defense is in there the QB's have tons of time. In 7 on 7 drills etc. I did not include the Offense because they were not doing much against the 1st team Defense. No one is catching anything on Newman in Training Camp this year no matter how much time the QB has. Quite a few people had Newman as a Top 5 CB last year. Larry Allen couldn't pull anymore. If everyone knows your LG can't pull, they know where the ball is going to be run. Larry Allen was the best Guard of his Generation. I say he was the best OLineman of his generation. He ain't a shadow of himself anymore. He can't get to the second level of defense. His Balance is gone. We weren't going to pay him 8 mil per for two more years. He can lift a hella weight, but his legs are shot. He wasn't the best player on that terrible O Line last year.

Re: Notes from the Cowboys Camp.
That O-Line is horses#*%. Parcells said in his news conference today that they were having serious problems with protection which may be why Newman looks like a Pro Bowler. Its not hard to cover receivers when the quarterback is on his ass right away. Still, I say Dallas is better than New York and Philadelphia whose entire teams are horses#*%!
Thanks to the Dallas fan for the update.

Still it is the first week. But Parcells is pissed at Davis for getting shot - AGAIN! - so the door is wide open for Watkins.

I thought Willie Pyle out of Virginia Tech would be competing for Davis Spot, but no mention, maybe he is just a solid special teamer |

Re: Notes from the Cowboys Camp.
Wasn't Newman/Williams covering Moss last year ? That would be 2 TD right there alone. Newman is not going to the pro bowl.

Re: Notes from the Cowboys Camp.
Moss beat Glenn and Williams.
Newmans situation is interesting. They make him cover the slot WR instead of the teams #1 WR so I can't put him in the elite corner catergory eventhough covering slot is harder to do than cover a WR out wide. Newman has amazing speed and coverskills. I think if newman hyped himself like deangelo hall, he could be in the probowl. |
