The New Monday Night Football
We're through the first quarter of ESPN's first installment of Monday Night Football and here are some things that I have noticed so far (I started to mention the first one another thread but I think this warrants its own):
-The score box is located in the middle of the screen at the bottom, and that's just not normal. For years we've been trained to look for the score in the corners, and lately it's been at the top. What was ESPN thinking on this? Are they doing this just to mess with me? I'm too easily distracted by crap written in the middle of the screen. Someone needs to be fired. -While I like his articles in the Post, I'm worried that Kornheiser is quickly wondering into Dennis Miller territory. He was making some questionable old school pop culture references and trying to force way too many jokes. He could end up being good because I think a lot of his commentary will be similar to PTI, and I like that show. But this is just one man's humble opinion. (he just made a terrible ATM-related joke. Ouch) -Are Mike Tirico and Theismann enemies? Doesn't the lead broadcaster usually sit in the middle? How did Kornheiser get the cherry spot? I need to know how they decided this. -I miss the player introductions because I like to know where the #2 receivers went to middle school. I hope they bring these back for the regular season. Watching the linemen try to act like they're comfortable in front of the camera is always classic. -The Vikings uniforms are fugly. -It's good to see that ESPN doesn't shy away from the commericals. I was worried that they wouldn't cut to them every 5 minutes, but they were obviously on top of that. Good for them. I blame TAFKAS for all the negatives and I thank God for all the positives. So what do you guys think so far?

I'm really not paying much attention, but I take full blame for all the negatives

Re: The New Monday Night Football
The Theismann/Kornheiser chemistry isn't there. Thiesmann has stonefaced every joke/comment Tony has thrown out there. Maybe they had a spat before the game? Joe seems intent on disagreeing with every comment TK makes. painful.
BTW, Tiriko is piss poor play by play guy...too much yapping. How 'bout a spot? How 'bout letting the "color" guys speak.... It's just a start, but I'm not impressed so far. |

I hate theisman. He's got such an ego. TK comes out with the "I'm a dumbass" attitude and tries to get his point across without starting any drama. He's not an idiot, and he can be funny at times.
I think we can all agree he's an upgrade from Miller. The scoreboard is rather psychadellic. I'm not comfortable with it.

I don't like the fact that as the ref just jogged down field to call a plenty on a punt his man-boobs jiggled to & fro.

Tony is the best thing about the broadcast.

Re: The New Monday Night Football
the real question is, can a sports broadcast go one game without saying Terrell Owens?

Re: The New Monday Night Football
I think they just had to poke Tony with a stick to wake him up.

God I hope there isn't this much sideline "reporting" during the regular season. I think they are calling every 3rd play right now. Holy Shit, Tony just got trivia schooled by Warren Sapp! That's awesome...I would pay to see that every week. |

Re: The New Monday Night Football
As far as the sideline whenches go, at least they got, arguably, the two best free agents out there. They could have tried to pry Lisa Guerrero and her huge rack away from The World Series of Pop Culture.

Re: The New Monday Night Football
Tafoya's cool, Colbert is just annoying.
I would only be impressed if they could lure Melissa Stark out of her motherhood induced retirement. Her skin tight sweaters were....um...cool. |
