Tagliabue can't find Gene Upshaw's leash...
This is too funny!!!
The job status of Bryant Gumbel, scheduled to be the play-by-play broadcaster on the eight late-season games on the NFL's in-house network, could be the subject of a discussion by NFL officials after Gumbel's suggestion that Paul Tagliabue show his successor "where he keeps Gene Upshaw's leash." Re: Tagliabue can't find Gene Upshaw's leash...
If you read the article it only gets better...
"Before he cleans out his office," Gumbel said. "Have Paul Tagliabue show you where he keeps Gene Upshaw's leash. By making the docile head of the players union his personal pet, your predecessor has kept the peace without giving players the kind of guarantees other pros take for granted. Try to make sure no one competent ever replaces Upshaw on your watch." I think it is funny...

Any reason to bounce Gumbel as play-by-play guy for NFL network (he has never done play-by-play before) is a good one. That he is an asshole who says stupid things should not be a shock to anyone.
The team of Patrick and Riggo would be a big step up.

Gumbel is absolutely a whiny bitch. Just a few months ago he implied that the winter olympics are irrelevant not because they are stupid and arbitrary (which they are), but because there are not enough colored atheletes competing in them. Huh? He's crazy
Gene Upshaw is also insane, by the way. |

Saying Gumbel is a borderline racist is like saying that TO is a borderline team killer.

I dont think you can assume Gumbel to be racist I dont even know if he is white or black to be honest.

I've met Bryant Gumbel and spoken on the phone with Greg Gumbel. Those two couldn't be more different. Bryant acts like his shit don't stink. Greg isn't some super friendly outgoing guy but at least he treats everyone with respect and you can have a conversation with him without feeling like you're wasting precious seconds of his life.

Re: Tagliabue can't find Gene Upshaw's leash...
i dont think u guys understand what he was trying to say. NFL players recieve very "organization friendly" contracts, which prevents owners from overpaying obviously. He's simply saying upshaw is and has not fought to make player contracts more "player friendly". If you look at player contracts in the NBA, NHL, and MLB, Gumbel is right
