Rumor: Gibbs to pack it in after season?
Profootballtalk.com writes:
MRS. GIBBS IS CRACKING THE WHIP (AGAIN)
Despite prior rumblings that Redskins coach Joe Gibbs will spend two more seasons in the NFL before returning full-time to NASCAR, we're now hearing that Mrs. Gibbs is pushing him to pack it in after the 2006 season. Word is that Gibbs, who'll turn 66 in November, is starting to feel the physical effects of the day-to-day grind of being an NFL head coach. Gibbs has diabetes, and in May 2005 a stent was placed into one of his coronary arteries. The stress on Gibbs figures to be higher in 2006, given that the team is saddled with legitimately high expectations for the first time since the 2000 season. When Gibbs returned to coach the Redskins in 2004, we heard that Mrs. Gibbs was a driving force behind the move, since it enabled son Coy Gibbs to get from behind the wheel of a race car/truck and launch a career in coaching. Coy still serves as an offensive assistant with the Redskins, and it remains to be seen whether his career will continue in D.C. or elsewhere after the head coach walks away. I know some of you don't like this site, I personally think the guy is funny as hell and he often is right on with his information. He also really really really hates Pastabelly. |

Ah I see it's time for the monthly Gibbs to retire thread. I was getting worried that we'd miss our August deadline.

Health could do it, but I don't trust anything from this site. Notice the lack of sources...

Re: Rumor: Gibbs to pack it in after season?
I did not know Mrs. Gibbs wanted him back in football. After reading his last book it sounded like it was her that did not want him to come back and he had to almost beg to get back. The Nascar teams are doing just fine without him too. I would think when he does leave coaching he will not do as near as much with the race teams as what he had done. JD is doing a good job with the teams.

facts are if we win it all, the chances of him coming back are pretty much non existant

Let me get this straight ...
(1) Mrs. Joe Gibbs talks to PFT with this exclusive story, (2) Coach Gibbs has no moral character and has been straight out lying to the Redskins community of interest Hmmm ... what should I believe??? |

In fact, I'd go as far as to suggest a sticky PFT Mythbusters thread. Every time PFT posts another wild ass rumor, it gets posted there and it gets hit with the snopes treatment.

I said it from the beginning, 3 years is the most. Especially now since he has Williams and Saunders pretty much running the team. he is getting the franchise going in the right direction, and will step aside next year. He may stay in some sort of capacity, but nothing to do with day to day. I think he is molding Williams into what he feels a successful coach should be. NExt year, Williams will be the MAN!

I just wish we could focus on the here and now instead of constantly speculating about when he'll retire. It'll happen one day but until then can't we leave it alone?

They start this rumor every single freakin' year! Joe is here for the duration of his contract.

Re: Rumor: Gibbs to pack it in after season?
When he hired Saunders, it signaled that a change is coming. I personally believe that he will be here threw his 5 year contract (This is what he said earlier this year when he spoke at our church and I believe it) but will hand off more responsibility each year to make it managable. I hope that he stays after that in some capacity... maybe like Walsh in SF.

Another "Distraction" Anything that will disrupt focus and concentration seems to always find a way to implement itself. Now is not the time.
