Re: Bench Brunell

goddamn right all he does is throw to runningbacks he is really pissing me off and don't say it is the pass rush because alot of quarterbacks can hang in there a make good throws and not wait until there is 30 seconds left to make a decent throw i want him out a.s.a.p

Re: Time to bench Brunell? (Mega-merge)

Brunell has been mediocre, at best, since he came here. Now, he's a LOT less than mediocre. It's way past time to bench him. It used to be that the best that could be said of him is "he doesn't lose games for us" (which, if that's ALL that can be said, is a sad indictment of any starting quarterback). But now, even that claim is unveiled for the falsehood that it is.

But, the bigger question is - Does Gibbs have the guts to do what most everyone knows needs to be done? Somehow I doubt it. Of course, Gibbs didn't hesitate to yank Ramsey for play that was nowhere near as bad as what Brunell is giving us.

My biggest fear is that Gibbs will stick with ole washed-up Brunell for at least another 3 games or so. By then, we'll either be 0-5 (because even the Texans game is no lock the way we are now playing) or 1-4. Either way, at that point, the bright and shining season we had all envisioned will be gone.

People Don't wanna hear That but I COULD NOT agree more..... Does he have the guts ... well he sure had the guts with Ramsey but I have NO Idea what the problem is with pulling Brunell

Then by all means, why don't you go out there and prove to us that you know more about coaching then the man with the rings.

Oh get real. I'm hardly the only Skins fan with these thoughts. In fact, the majority of Skins fans are thinking the exact same thing right now. So are a LOT of ex-Skins, players who were with Gibbs when those rings were won.

So, quit pulling the "Gibbs has 3 rings" card, take off the blinders, and look at the present situation logically and realistically, instead of paying blind allegiance to what Gibbs last did 14 years ago.

I love the Skins and always will and I have a tremendous amount of respect for Joe. But I think he has been and still is wrong about Brunell. He seems to have a blind spot where MB is concerned, but I don't and neither do many other fans, players (current and past), and other football commentators - people who are far more knowledgeable about football than either you or I. And I include in that group Sonny J. who, by the way, is no fan of Brunell.

I'm almost there with ya, I'll give him one more week against the texans, if he they lose to David Carr, I'd say try Campbell.

I don't agree. I think there was a lot going on out there in Dallas and Mark was trying hard to protect the football and not make it worse than it was. He was playing conservative, which obviously did NOT help us, but who's calling the plays here. From where I was sitting it was run, run, run.. and third and eight and we can't make the completion. Why were we running on the first three downs if it wasn't working? We did it all night long. To me, that is a coaching issue and it isn't just Mark's problem. This is a team and everyone has to trust each other. Right now, it's looking like the players have very little trust in the play calls. I think THAT is the problem.

Re: Bench Brunell

I'm not even sure what good it would do at this point. The run AND pass blocking both stink right now. The offense has issues across the board.

yeah, pass protection broke down, but not until they knew we HAD to throw. Early in the game he had a lot of plays w/good protection. Were wr's open? I can't say, but he did miss a couple throws pretty badly, one to Cooley dropped 5-10 ft. low in the turf.
Part of the qb pressure blitzes is due to the lack of respect they had for him to burn them on it. I would like to have faith in MB, but its getting tough.

I don't see it like that Matty.
I think Brunell is the root cause for most of our offensive issues. It is a ripple effect. His QB play puts our O-line and running game, as well as our D in bad positions.

O-line
  • MB's play makes blitzing impossible to defend since he can't effectively throw to the open guy, especially if the open guy is over the middle
Running
  • simple here, teams don't have to worry about he pass. Safety's can creep up, and LB's can tee off.
Defense
  • backs are against the wall with bad feild position and we are constantly losing the TOP battle.

Re: Bench Brunell

You are 100 % right . Maybe it is because they are thinking too much learing the calls ? It looks like we give up on the run too quick . At least if we run , we can beat the other team up a bit , we have some big boys up front and it would keep or qb's from getting killed .

Right on.

The defense doesn't look so hot either - not as bad as the offense, but they gave up 27 points to the Cowboys and 19 to friggin' Minnesota.

If the offense could stay on the field (6 for 27 this season on 3rd down) maybe the D wouldn't look so bad. The defense played pretty good......for a while, but they cant be expected to win the game all by themselves.

Yeah I'm pretty much on this bandwagon as well. He just looked beyond repair, I think he might be hurt.
