Talent Evaluators
They need to get fired.
The person that said "Ryan Clark is a bum, Lets bring in Archuleta" needs to get fired. Archuleta missed the block on the fake punt to go along with several missed tackles. Carters one sack looks pretty good but he didnt get any pressure. Most good Dlinemen get pressure... McIntosh needs to play. There is no point in giving away picks to move up in the draft to get a guy who isnt going to play. Duckett... I'm not going to blame Lloyd or ARE because we dont have a passing game. We just use screen passes. Wright and Rumph are aweful. They shouldn't be in the league. Rogers does not play like a top ten NFL pick. In my book, top ten picks should be probowlers. Daniels and Wynn dont do anything. Seriously, They dont do anything. Why draft Nemo a few years ago when we have Rock? Why trade for duckett when we have Sellers? Why use a top ten pick on Rogers when you can just resign Smoot(no matter what anyone says, He's better than Rogers...). Why Trade up for McIntosh if he isn't going to play? Wasted picks... Someone needs to own up to these mistakes. Trade Deadline: Season is over, We still have duckett, Its time to trade betts. He won't be back. We dont need him for the playoff push. Trade him to a team that needs a decent RB. |

Re: Talent Evaluators
I agree with much of that. Why so many screen passes on offense? I don't buy that Brunell's arm is weak - that was a perfect strike for the 50 yard bomb to Lloyd. We need to take more shots to prevent defenses from stacking the box against Portis. But we really need to reassert the running attack. Portis has to be frustrated - averaging 4+ yards per carry, two touchdowns, yet only 14 carries? I'm confident the offensive woes can be fixed. I'm not nearly as optimistic about the defense - the pieces just don't seem to fit. Even the play of Taylor and Washington has become shaky, which is scary since they're our two best players on D.

Re: Talent Evaluators
Was it really Archuletta who missed that block on the fake punt??? If so, dude needs to be cut - no two ways about it. He can go work out rigorously and miss tackles and blocks on tackling dummies in Arizona, or wherever the hell he trains in the offseason.
I'm with you that Wynn sucks. He is a third string D-lineman at best. Veteran experience and locker room presence is all good, but he's being paid a boatload, and we could do way better for the amount we're paying this guy. Daniels is pretty average too, but atleast gets some pressure (when he's not playing injured). I'm indifferent to which one (Betts or Rock) goes. My preference would be for Rock (another nice locker room guy) to go. Betts is a better back, can return kicks decently and doesn't fumble as much. I can't say jack about TJ unless I see him get meaningful time in a game. Rogers is clearly not a no. 1 corner in the two season we've seen him play. I'd draft someone else in the first round next year. Holdman is probably playing to the best of his ability right now, but the guy sucks. We have got to find a way to get Rocky in more packages. |

Re: Talent Evaluators
williams said rocky is progressing well but holdman is still the better choice at this point. wright hasnt been nearly as bad as rogers, and to be fair wright wasnt brought in to be a starter, he was supposed to be nickel so he isnt doing to bad considering he is a backup. rogers has been terrible i agree. archuleta's tackling has been 10 times better than the rest of the defense whether anyone will admit it or not, his coverage isnt great but his tackling has been probably the best on the defense

Re: Talent Evaluators
Let's face it. The people making the moves are Gibbs and Cerrato. In my opinion Vinny HAS to go and Joe get's one more year.

Re: Talent Evaluators
It's Gibbs and the staff that make the personnel decisions. Vinny is nothing more than a yes man and scout at this point.

Re: Talent Evaluators
I'm starting to get pissed about the fact that we drafted Rogers. Like jamf said, we could have probably resigned Smoot and drafted someone else, like say, SHAWN MERRIMAN! That would have killed 2 birds with one stone. But, I guess it's true what they say about hindsight, so I'll just go back to wondering around aimlessly like I've been doing.

Re: Talent Evaluators
I get really mad about it because I'm a UMD fan and Merriman was my favorite player on the team his last 2 years there. Oh well, all we have left are our dreams.

Re: Talent Evaluators
my dreams have been replaced by nightmares of becoming what the Lions have been for the last 4 years and what the Raiders will be for the next 4....

Secondly, Wright and Rumph are two back-ups that are progressing. Our Coaching staffs biggest gaffe this offseason was corner depth and everyone knew it. We all were screaming for corner depth, and no-one seemed to care. Rumph has shown promise, and given some time I think he'll be a pretty good back-up. Remember we traded Taylor Jacobs for him, and I'm pretty sure we got the better end of that deal. The season is arguably salvagable given the history of this teams Character. When times get rough, we turn to our playmakers and let them take over. It's time to play smash mouth football so teams are faithful to the run. Once they commit, then throw a reverse in here, a flee flicker there. The most important thing about running the ball is that it eats up clock... and when the clock is ticking and the chains are moving... it takes pressure off our D and then we will win football games.
