Tony McGee Reaction to Dallas!

Tony McGee Reaction To Dallas

Well the first question that was asked to me was “What was going through your head the last 36 seconds of that football game?”. In all honesty, I thought the Redskins were going to be the “same old Redskins” and lose another game in that fashion. The defense couldn’t hold down the stretch which really worried me, Archuletta got beat again which is no surprise. The Troy Vincent singing was absolutely huge, and I’m not talking about the blocked field goal. The leadership that he has brought to the Redskins and the breath of air that he has breathed into the team has been a big component in their play. In addition, you see the play he’s registered on the field as well. He’s starting at safety now, the blocked kick was enormous obviously as well. Now as I’ve said before, brining in Adam Archuletta was a big mistake, because the man has no coverage skills. I think if they bring him up to play linebacker a little bit, he is good at blitzing and against the run. However as you saw Sunday, even when they bring him in the 6 DB sets, he hurts the team (gave up the play to Wintten that should have won it for Dallas).

Now taking a look at why the passing game really opened up even without Santana Moss this week, the answer is simple and that is rushing the football. I know Clinton Portis didn’t have over 100 yards rushing the football, but you can’t discredit this Dallas defense, and especially the way they play the run with that seven man type front. They have a very, very good defense, but they saw Portis as a threat because the Redskins rushed the ball a substantial number of times. You then saw the passing game and a lot of play action passes work well for the Redskins, and if they want to win against the Eagles, it will have to be more of the same.

Now looking into the Philadelphia game, a lot of people say that sometimes there can be a hangover from a win like this, but the Redskins aren’t in the position to have a hangover. This is a spark that this team needed, and I have a feeling that they are going to come out and play another solid game against the Eagles. Now, this is a team that needed to “learn how to win games”, and I think they may have done that last week, much like they did against the Cowboys last year. Now against the Eagles the Redskins need to play error free, and keep stretching the field to open up the rushing game for Clinton Portis. The addition of Shawn Springs back to the defense was huge, and its showing as he’s been on the field for a little bit, but the secondary still can’t give up the big plays. That starts with the defensive line and getting pressure on McNabb. The Eagles are beatable and I said two weeks ago that everything came down to the games against the Cowboys and Eagles, and they are halfway there.

I will see you guys next week! Take Care!

He already knows all the words to Hail To The Redskins and he sings it in perfect tune.

I wondered why some people called the Vincent siging a desperation move?!?! To me while it certainly came at a desperate time the move was solid. We were banged up in the secondary and this guy has experience and has been a pro bolwer in the past. If he can come in and give us decent play then why not make the move. A desperation move is bringing in Deion to play corner or something like that. Troy Vincent was a solid mvoe from the begining. Really a no lose.

Yeah I definitely agree 110%.

I too didn't understand the people that were against bringing him in.

We desperately needed the help, and he's a proven vet with something left in the tank, seemed like a no-brainer.

The Vincent signing may prove to be enormous. The blocked kick already is. From what you read, he's a good guy in the locker. Since apparently nobody wanted him, he may well kick it up a gear and have little loyalty for the Skins for giving him a chance!

I heard a funny tidbit about Vincent on the Riggins show the other day. They had a sound byte from Marcus Washington talking about the play. Apparently, when the defense huddled up for the Dallas field goal attempt, most of the players were hanging their heads and acting dejected. Vincent came into the huddle and was trying to get everyone hyped up, telling them something like "C'mon guys, we can block this kick". Then he goes out and does it himself.

Riggins made the comment that Vincent was the only one that was positive because he hasn't been here long enough to know that those kind of games don't usually turn out well for Washington.

The defense obviously needs something, maybe many things. Perhaps he can continue to provide a spark?

Well, Vincent isn't exactly a 'street' guy. He's had a stellar career and he's still got something in the tank. It's not like we signed Matt Kyer off the street, now that would be a street guy, I heard he's hardcore.
