What is the identity of this team?

Preseason - We bring in Saunders, ARE and Lloyd so presumably we are intending to run a Saunders style offense and get the receivers involved?

After little success Gibbs comes out and publicly states that he wants to get back to 'Redskin' football, i.e. dominant o-line, running the ball and controlling the clock.

These two positions to not tally. So is Saunders going to change and maybe edit his 700 page book or is he going to leave and let Gibbs play 'Redskin' football?

I think Saunders is a proven, top level offensive coordinator who should be given time to do the job for which is was brought in for. Why bring him in and then give up on his system after half a season?

This whole organisation seems confused to me, from the FO offseason signings through to the play calling on game day.

At this time, it's a hard call. That might be the most disheartening thing to me. It's very unlike a Gibbs team. I do however think that will be Gibbs top priority. Team unity, Team chemistry, NOT strip and rebuild. I think after the fiasco that is this season, we will see a team we recognize has Gibbs style on it. There is nobody more capable than Joe to re-establish that

I think so too. Joe has already taken steps to correct things & he'll continue w/that in the offseason. I don't see this as being a big free agent signing offseason.

I'm not big on Saunders. but, since you handed him the reigns, he gets a free pass on the season. now, if next year is a mirror image of whats going on this season, then he must go. i can usually see some sort of plan in an offensive scheme. but with this offense, the play calling is all over the place. I'm old school. if something is working, just keep doing it until it is stopped. i think there was way too much passing against Atlanta. betts should have had about 35 carriers, at least.

Do our offensive linemen fit Saunders' system? Did he use smaller, more run oriented linemen in KC or were they bigger pass blockers?

I'm not sure it's the size of the linemen more than the mentality of the line. Do they want to push off the line and blow people back in a power run style offense or do they want to finesse and misdirect. 300 lbs is 300 lbs but I would think you need to be comfortable with yourself and how you coordinate your body to match the style of football.

we have no identity at all.

our identity is play the first half, and sleep the rest of the game

Re: What is the identity of this team?

Basically, the team that won 5 in a row to get into the playoffs last year is the identity Gibbs wants.

A team that will hit you in the mouth on both sides of the ball.

Think Gibbs may have any regrets about bringing in Al Saunders? I know he would never say it publicly, just wonder if the thought maybe crossed his mind.

Re: What is the identity of this team?

I agree with some of the Gibbs haters here. Gibbs, along with Williams, obiviously made some huge mistakes in the offseasons. I still think Al can change the Skins, as you all very well know lol. I think after Gibbs is gone, we gotta move on from the Gibbs era, and Gibbs football. The Skins cant always be like the Skins of the past.

We have to think about the future of the franchise, and that might not be "Gibbs" style football. I know we tried moving in a different direction the last ten years, but now we have a proven offensive coordinator and a good defensive one too. Let them do what they are good at.

Gibbs needs to figure out what he is gonna do. Either get rid Al, take full control, and get involved more in coaching, less in personel. Or back off, and give suggestions for personel, and let Saunders and Williams take care of the rest. To me choice one is a losing battle, because after Gibbs becomes too old we start from stratch again. Go with Saunders and Williams, and go for a newer look. I realize Saunders is old too, but his style of offense is less conservative and more new school.

Re: What is the identity of this team?

The styles of offense are crashing headon, and with Gibbs influencing the playcalling, it only puts the chance of a Saunders offense to develop even farther behind.

That is why I suggest either he back off or take full control. This little game we are playing every week really isnt doing us any good.
