What type of offense do you like to see?
Okay, maybe to better understand others' point of view as to what they expect from our offense, I was wondering what type of offense do you like to see on the field? An explosive offense that scores quickly with bombs on every drive or hard nosed time consuming offenses that maybe not score alot of points, but muscles their way over the defense?
I think I tend to be in between. I think football is about toughness and not finesse so much. I like offenses who run the ball down the defense's throat and once the defense is on the ropes, you hit them with the knock out punch ---- big play action pass to your WR on a go pattern! I like offenses who can chew up 8 or 9 minutes of the clock. To be honest, I wouldn't mind us winning 3-0 in every ball game as long as we win. So tell me about your favorite offense?

Re: What type of offense do you like to see?
I want an offense that tries to score on every drive. And dont say that every offense tries to score on every drive because I think thats crap. We try and milk the clock, hold onto the ball.
Yes, you need to run to control the clock, i agree, but you should make calls to try and score. I dotn car eif you are up by 28, you never know. The colts have the best offense, they can run or pass, but the point is they call plays to win. They dotn play any different with a lead, thats what i want. i want consistency

As the great Herm once said "You play to win the game" lol. Period, you dont play to hold your lead and milk the clock like a little baby. You go all out and try to destroy teams. Back in the day Gibbs offense did run alot, but they passed too, and they always finished off teams(see the scores of games from those season, most are like 40-10). That doesnt seem like a team that just runs all the time.

Re: What type of offense do you like to see?
Well, that's true to a certain point, but they did finish alot of teams off by being ball controlled. Alot of those blow outs came from them scoring early and often, but the difference is that those teams had continuity....the offensive line had been together for years! In my opinion, that is the key to a great offense...develop a solid offensive line that is together for more than three seasons.

Re: What type of offense do you like to see?
I just get tired of people who say we need to get back to "smashmouth" football -- as if we're supposed to have a 50-to-10 run to pass ratio.
Even with the Hogs and John Riggins at their peak, Joe Gibbs' teams were not the pre-Bill Callahan Nebraska Cornhuskers. Good offenses can run at will, and pass when they need to. Give Campbell more time to learn, and try to instill in this offensive line that yes, sometimes they will be called upon to pass block (which apparently, they find repugnant), and Saunders will have this team in chemistry. And I don't care what the score is -- if we get the ball back with a minute or so before halftime, enough of the draw plays -- TRY TO SCORE. I always admired the '99 Rams -- they could do it all. |

beem, i dont think it should be 50-10 as you said, but definitly a little more on the run side. i mean our line is built for it, not that little triple reverse, halfback pass stuff. if we run the ball consistantly right at them and pick up yardage, one itl set up the pass, to the defense will eventually just give out.

This is a good point. I get so tired of all the Skins fans saying we must run to win. Run run run. I agree to a point. Sometimes teams will dare you to throw it by stacking the line. What if a team ( like Minnesota ) is tough against the run but weak against the pass? NE gave a blueprint on how to beat the Minn. defense. We sure did not try and throw on them at all. Are we just going to try and run, run and run some more??? Bottom line is we are not scoring enough TD's!!! Are we ever going to have an offense where we can spread teams out and throw? With the old Gibbs it was run first but you knew some deep passes were coming. New Gibbs? Sometimes I don't even know who this guy is anymore. I would like to see more passing. You pass to score and you run to win! |

Re: What type of offense do you like to see?
I love an exciting offense, but more importantly an unpredictable one. I wish we could come out each week and make the defenses clueless. Be able to smash a team in the mouth for 200+ rushing yards, yet the next game throw for 350+... it would be nice.
Mabye one day.... just mabye.

Re: What type of offense do you like to see?
I guess I am playing a bit too much madden. On rookie mode. With a custom team. All created characters as myself. 99's in everything. And I'm the head coach. And I save all the replays, and watch them before I go to bed.
j/k... but i used to do that kind of stuff back in the day. good times.

Re: What type of offense do you like to see?
I like to see an offense that is based on the run, but when they throw, they take shots down the football field. That's why I didn't like the crap that was going on with Brunell where every play was taking place within 8 yards of the line of scrimmage. I like watching highlights of the Skins running and then Rypien gunning down the field in 91. That's what they need. Teams at least have to respect the deep ball. Then, everything would be more effective. An offense has to be unpredictable now. It can't be "they know what's coming, they just can't stop it." That doesn't happen anymore. Teams are too good, too fast and do too much research. Offenses have to be unpredictable and that means having a balance.

Re: What type of offense do you like to see?
Sellers and Duckett in the backfield, Moss and Lloyd/ARE split wide. Duckett runs, Sellers blocks then Sellers runs and Duckett blocks. Safeties sneak in to support the run D. Wideouts go deep on post patterns and Campbell lets it fly.
Replace with Portis as you see fit once he's healthy and happy.

Re: What type of offense do you like to see?
one thing is for certain, we need an offense that averages over 21 points a game
