Betts a better signing than you thought
Having a 2nd starting calibur RB should be better for many reasons, some obvious and some not. My Reasons are...
1. In case one of them gets injured, we have another 2. Both are less likely to get injured with less runs 3. Both will preform better towards the end of the game due to more energy 4. Portis will probably restructure his contract and get much less than if Ladell wasn't with us (which means more money towards the cap), because he does not carry us anymore and is worth less than when he did. 5. If something goes wrong, we have an extra back we can trade to fix whatever went wrong. 6. Thats one less good RB that other teams can get (it could matter alot depending on who picked him up, lets say the Eagles with their lack of a run game or the Giants with Tiki retireing?) 7. The opposing coaches cant gameplan as officiently because Portis and Betts are two different style of runners. 8. A defense that Portis's style of run is bad on, Betts's might be good, and vica versa. 9. When one is having a bad game, the other might be having a good one, so we will almost never have a terrible run game. 10. Opposing defenses won't get used to and pick up the moves of each runner as easily because they will have to experience two different runners and styles. |

Re: Betts a better signing than you thought
I agree but this year, Ladell was being used as a third down back. I think this was due to injury, but if not, this was horrible coaching. Portis needs to be in there on third down if he can be. What I would do is let Portis play until he tires, and put Betts in for a breather. Betts would play 1st and 2nd down, but if it gets to third, Portis HAS to be in there.

Re: Betts a better signing than you thought
Think about Ladell wearing down defenses on first and/or second down and then knowing Portis is back there, fresh and hungry for a score. If you're a defense that has that job, I think you might be a little nervous...

I'd love to see them both back there on some second and short plays. The options would seem to be endless.
