Would cutting Mark Brunell boost Jason Campbell's confidence?
Just wondering - wouldn't cutting Brunnel next year boost JC's confidence because it would eliminate Gibb's ability to pull the trigger if JC comes out slow next season? You would still have Todd Collins as your backup who knows the system so you have someone to come in in case JC's gets banged up.
Just wanted the boards thoughts on this one.... |

Re: Would cutting Brunnel boost JC's confidence?
No, JC likes Brunell and his 37 year old arse is not a threat to anyone anymore. I could see a point if there were any friction between the two of them but there has never been any evidence of that...

Brunell is a valuable backup and from all accounts he's a great team guy. I fully expect him to be back with a restructured contract.

Exactly. Brunell as much as his play has been poor this year, has always been a great team guy. As a backup, I dont mind having him on the team because you could do a HELL of a lot worse for a backup QB.

Matty - if Brunnel were to restructure have you heard how much it would be restrucutred to? For a backup qb is a salary of $1-2 million about right? Right now the cap schedule on the site states that Brunell is to make $6.6 million in 2007 - how much of a cut would he be willing to take? |

#1, nobody is going to give him the kind of money he can make here as a starter or as a backup elsewhere, and #2 nobody is going to want him as their starter. He doesn't have much leverage here. |

I would expect him to help school JC, as he needs it, and JC will benefit from having MB around

I think that we SHOULD cut Brunell but bring in someone a little younger than Brunell but better than Collins because I really do not think that Campbell will be productive enough to last the entire year next year. I hope that the quaterback Gods comes and help JC out during the offseason and he comes in next year slinging it like P. Manning but right now he is more like E. Manning and I would like some protection against him totally flubbing it next year. Collins nor Brunell is very good protection |

JC is right where he needs to be at this point every game he has played we have been in and maybe could have won if it had not been for that sorry defense. Brunell is a team guy and would serve as a good mentor to JC.

Truthfully, I'd take Campbell over Manning all day long. I don't Campbell has thrown a pick in like three weeks. |

Re: Would cutting Brunnel boost JC's confidence?
Campbell and Eli are both being hindered by a low completion % right now. In fact, this year they have been nearly the same player. (staistically, projected over the same # of starts)

Campbell doesn't have that goofy look on his face though.
