Marvin Lewis to Replace Cowher?
I don't want this thread to turn into a series of posts about how the Redskins should have hired Lewis instead of Spurrier. How they should have never fired Schottenheimer. Etc.
I just thought this is an interesting rumor worth sharing The Enquirer - Bengals notebook (scroll to the bottom) "A popular rumor going through town: Lewis will leave the Bengals to replace Bill Cowher as Steelers coach. Cowher is expected to announce his retirement after the season finale Sunday in Cincinnati. The Steelers were eliminated last week from playoff contention. Lewis is under contract with the Bengals through the 2010 season but was a member of Cowher's first Steelers staff (1992-95) as linebackers coach. Lewis also is a Pittsburgh native.'

Re: Marvin Lewis to Replace Cowher?
I think that would actually be a good move for both parties. We've seen what Lewis can do with a bunch of criminals, and we've been impressed. Taking the Bengals from the laughing stock of the league to a playoff threat yearly.

Re: Marvin Lewis to Replace Cowher?
Okay, so he has a problem with disciplining players, that doesn't take away from the fact that if the Steelers hired him in the offseason, they would be taking a step in the right direction

Re: Marvin Lewis to Replace Cowher?
NC State filled their coaching position. They're getting Boston College's head coach...which is just strange. Anyway, I think it would be a good move for the Steelers and terrible for the Bengals. Yeah, they have a bunch of problems with discipline, but I think they'll be okay. Also, I like the Bengals, so I don't want to see him leave.

Re: Marvin Lewis to Replace Cowher?
he isnt going to go anywhere. he's turning the bengals into contenders. they have an amazing offense and palmer's his boy. plus the steelers have some glaring issues facing them this year. I dont think they're as bad as us, but would you leave cincy to go to pittsburg?

Re: Marvin Lewis to Replace Cowher?
With the talent the Bengals have on offense, Lewis would be a fool to leave. Sure Pittsburgh has the better D, but Lewis can/will continue to build Cincy's. Not to mention the QB situation for both teams. I mean, Palmer vs. Big Ben, which would you take?!

Re: Marvin Lewis to Replace Cowher?
I agree, Cowher probably will leave and Russ Grim will get the Pittsburgh job. Grim has been mentioned as a head coach candidate for the past few year so why not get a shot with a team that he is already apart of?

Re: Marvin Lewis to Replace Cowher?
Yeah, I also had the impression that Grimm was being groomed to take over when Cowher resigned.

However, I don't think the Steelers can just anoint him the next coach (or Whisenhunt) just like I don't think the Redskins can just say that Williams will be the next head coach here. That would be a violation of the Rooney Rule right? Minority coaches have to at least be given an interview. And if you say well Grimm is the next head coach but we'll go ahead and interview Greg Blache anyway to appease the Rooney Law, it makes the whole idea of the Rooney Rule a scam. Which some argue it is already, but if any team has to abide by the rule it's the Steelers.
